<p>Admit: Demonstrated passion for math, through USAMO, MOSP,etc., backed up by solid recs, essays, grades, and test scores.</p>
<p>Defer: No huge accomplishments, such as research</p>
<p>Reject: Smart kid who doesn't work hard enough.</p>
<p>Admit: National AP Scholar (7 5's, 2 4's); excellent rec's; well-rounded (academically, musically, athletically); good leadership; highest gpa in class; good board scores (3900)</p>
<p>Defer: essays are pretty good, but not stellar; 11 others from my school are applying</p>
<p>Reject: no national recognition in anything</p>
<p>Accept: Great grades, good boards, great teacher recs, National Merit Semifinalist, well-rounded, from an underrepresented state, show lots of potential in many areas.</p>
<p>Defer: Essays aren't exceptional, not big on research, don't have one defining quality.</p>
<p>Reject: In a crowd of 4000+ applicants, I just don't stand out enough.</p>
<p>Admit: several Japan-related activities, including current yearlong stay, recommendation from Stanford employee who taught one of said activities, ~500 hours of volunteer work, good SATs (3810) and rank (6/518)
Defer: Essays are average, no really great awards, no leadership positions, maybe they wanna see something from my Japanese high school
Reject: No sports, no music, took SATs 4 times (once every year of high school), got a 3 on one of my APs, only have 2 APs total...</p>
<p>Accepted: Great recs, funny essay, 800 SAT II writing score, REAL dedication to 1-2 ECs I am really passionate about.</p>
<p>Deferred: Grades, Test Scores (1440, 34, 800 Writing, 740 US History, 660 Math IIC!!!, 5 Calc BC, 5 Lang, 5 Chem, 5 US History, 4 Spanish Lang), courseload pretty much average for the Stanford applicant pool</p>

<p>accept: perfect test scores (1600 one sitting first time, 3X800), founder of academic decathlon team that became regional champions 2nd yr, district president of future business leaders of america (fbla), national fbla awards, state finalist in piano competition</p>
<p>defer: perhaps overly quirky essays, not sure about rec letters, didn't put much focus on community service</p>
<p>reject: i'll figure this out after mid-december</p>

<p>i mean, yeah, i have high boards too (1600 first and only sitting, 2x800, 790), good grades, recs, and ECs, but...i can't bear to do the admit/defer/reject thing cuz--like cisforcons said--you feel obnoxious at the end, like you're flaunting stuff that shouldn't be boasted about...</p>

Varied and passionate EC's: cancer research, advocacy, and patient care, botany research, heavily involved in culture as in taking and teaching language and doing cultural dances, Won 1st ever volunteering award at a volunteer based organization, did well in two stanford classes of biochem and psychology (8 units), community college on the side, IB, heavy commitment to family, MYP diploma, too many comm service hours</p>
<p>Defer: Decent GPA, Acceptable SAT scores</p>
<p>Reject: Decent GPA, Acceptable SAT scores, highly highly competitive school</p>

3 focused ECs: national level/az champ/ tournament of champion semi-finalist debater 1600 NFL points, 500 hours comm service and executive board Key Club Intl running clubs in 400 clubs in 3 states, and myeloma reserach for two years at Mayo Clinic 2nd state science fair entering siemens this year...will be published in blood oncology journal this novemeber

<p>Accept: committed to one activity, good leadership involvenment, well-round, possibly an attractive essay, good rec letters
Defer: Mediocre scores comopared to the competitive applicant pool, maybe though below average score in light of those geniuses, one rec letter will be unpredictable
Deny: nothing glowing...</p>
