EA'ers why will you be accepted/deferred/rejected?

Accept: Homeschooled, did research at Stanford Med School over summer (entering Westinghouse & STS), intellectual interests essay is excellent, great recs for the most part (including one from my research mentor, a Stanford assistant professor, plus ones form my CC instructors).
Defer: SAT's could be a little higher (esp. SAT II's), currently a few of my essays could use some help, and I don't have any major national accomplishments.
Deny: I'm white, I live in San Jose, and there's at least one other white female homeschooler from San Jose who goes to my CC who's applying EA (and is an amazing gymnast and student).

Accepted: Mediocre SAT Scores
Defer: Lack of leadership
Deny: 6 volunteer hours, Asian,

Accepted: 4.0, 1600, decent leadership and ECs, great recs, great essays, mathematical research
Defer: no fabulous awards, average writing score
Deny: nothing really stands out, just another Indian

just an observation from the last few posts..

"deny: nothing really stands out, just another Indian"
"Deny: 6 volunteer hours, Asian"
"Deny: I'm white..."

I'm reviving this little post...

Accepted: Internship at optical laboratory, independent project in UPenn Biomed Dept, patents, presidents of major clubs

Defer: acceptable SAT scores, Low SAT2, mediocre essays, bad rec, poor grammar, impressive volunteer hours but not IMPRESSIVE, highly competitive high school area, no passion in one area

Deny: defer + no national recognition, no sports, hasn't cured cancer, hasn't saved small african nation, engineering hopeful, yellow

Accepted: I will write an amazing set of essays (theoretically), secure great teacher recs and I've got a 95 GPA with well-rounded set of ECs. Good ACT (hopefully) and pretty damn good SAT IIs

Defer: no leadership positions in ECs, no really impressive volunteer hours, no passion in a single area.

Deny: The same reasons for deferment - someone will have my stats but will have the intangibles - the character and passion aspects that show through ECs...and there's two just as qualified students in my school applying SCEA and both are extremely talented athletes (ones a world champion triathlete - extremely dedicated). Oh, and I'm shooting for Engineering - which is tough to get into.

Acceptance: California?
Defer: Asian?
Reject: Adcom sober

haha that was a joke

just realized im not smart enough for stanford because 3800 was such a headscratcher for me..., in retrospect, it seems doing well on the SATs was suuuch an accident for me

is it a defer/ reject that im an indian non-californian? with a tremendous lack of common sense?

hey somebodynew, i like the 'theoretical' part

Accept: First generation asian boy from Alaska. PROMYS 2005. Great teacher recs.

Defer: Average SAT scores, ECs

Reject: Passions don't shine through.

haha i hate apps, I feel the exact same way. Except I'm chinese, which doesn't help either. And I want to major in engineering.
robotFOOD, do you remember Francois from PROMYS? I think he shoudl've been there the same time as you...

Alright here we go:
Accept: Don't know
Defer: Don't know
Reject: They only take one out of every 4 or 5 incredibly qualified applicants. Enough said.
Some of you guys are crazy awesome... Well, no matter what, good luck to everyone. We'll all end up somewhere we're happy, if we can just get past these stupid apps.

UUUGH. APPS. I have 3 essays to write, scores to send/figure out, and a dance tape to do. You know, I could get into this really nice college down the way in about 3 minutes... : P

accept : they liked me
defer : they kinda liked me
reject : they didn't like me

Hey yen06,

Yes, I do know Francois. In fact, I hung out with him a lot. Good kid.

Are you his friend? Send him my regards :D

haha yeah Francois is pretty sweet. Who should I send him regards from? He always gets a good kick out of my CC stories.

hahah good deal.

Just tell him that it's the Alaskan kid. He should remember :P

admit: ummm.... ? a lot of people from my school get in, and i'm in the top quartile. girl for engineering
defer: there are like 40 kids (in a 100 kid class) applying ea (but!!! like 7 people got in last year)
reject: i'm not a legacy, and my writing SAT score basically shows i'm illiterate

Admit: Insanely strong teacher rec's, perfect scores on every standardized test(doesnt count for much, i know), lots of ECs, most for 3 years or longer. Good optional rec too. 2/433, 10 APs, various middle-tier honors.

Defer: Nada

Reject: Not so good counselor rec (new woman, doesnt know me), not the best essays, no national awards, dont stand out for an Indian kid.

forever21 - Did Stanford accept you? I'm applying there.

Son's still not posting to CC -- he's too busy! I also think he's going to apply RD instead of EA, because of his situation:

Admit: "Fits" at SU (3.8 GPA there already), clearly demonstrated passion for learning (many self-study, night classes, independent study to supplement his HS coursework). I think he's considering having one of his Stanford summer profs write an outside rec, since his school recs are new teachers and will have only known him 2 months.

Defer: Not enough coursework because only Soph/Junior count (and he's a Junior currently, though he'll graduate or CHSPE out early).

Reject: Want to see him take another year. He's only applying to SU this year, because that's his goal and he'll only graduate early to attend SU.

The defer/reject are why he's probably going RD -- he'll have a year less to show on his transcripts than regular applicants.
