Defer: not a math genius Asian, International quota, from not very underrepresented Boston, only 120 hours of comm serv, no national awards, never worked (don't have work permit), no sports, only 7 APs

Reject: forgot to use CAPS when filling out the online app, affirmative action + Asian = no.

I would assume you're kidding, but if not, they only want you to use caps for the written forms for readability..where they seperated the spaces with vertical marks very clearly..

oops.

then Reject from UPenn then: for using all CAPS on the online form :(

u worry too much. lol

Accepted: Strong EC's, Stanford is building up a Debate team(captain of mine), Legacy, Lots of awards in a variety of areas.

Defered: Stanford hates Arizona. All SAT I and II 760+ but no perfect scores.

Rejected: Stanford hates my school and would rather have a Bellarmine kid.

Hey Smoke: Are you from AZ, and if so where? Your post kind of read that way, and in that case I might know you, considering I am way into debate in AZ.

Accept: High GPA W 4.98; 11 AP/IB credit courses; intl applicant living in the US. A fairly new immigrant (5 years); moved to new school in senior year and been recommended by two teachers for Pathfinder scholarship; rank 6 in class of 330. School ranks 3rd in Newsweek Top 100 high schools. Pretty good ECs, lots of leadership positions (editor-in-chief school and community newsletter), entrepreneur (founded FunctionCity.com, grossed $3000 last year :p), part of Toronto District School Board Curriculum Evaluation committee (only student from the district) and Head of media Relations Hope For Toronto Non-Profit Organization
Defer: only mediocre SAT scores 1490 (760 math, 730 verbal, 700 writing-12 on essay) and SAT II scores arent stellar (750 math IIc, 780 french, 740 chem)
Reject: foreign applicant asking for too much money; SAT scores and just an average candidate lol

ummm...yeah...don't i feel like dust all of a sudden...oh well

you know wat i realized.. how average i sound...:p

^ your comment just made me laugh :) lol

New three for me:

Accepted: My counselor and teachers wrote great recs (or so they tell me), I wrote a fine set of essays, and I've got a 4.0 and pretty good SAT IIs (760, 770, 770) to balance out my so-so SAT I (710M/750V/630W)

Defer: Nothing special in my EC's, I'm too much of a "Hmm, I'll like this - I'll join. Eh, I'm sick of it. I quit." when it comes to clubs.

Reject: Stanford's already got 2 guys from my school (athletics), and I'm the only one applying there...I just don't see Prep going 3/3 at Stanford.

Accepted: The Summer Science Program, 780m/760v/690w (but writing means nothing this year!), 800 Physics, 770 Math 2C, 730 Literature, a lot of thought and passion put into my essays (best writing ive ever produced), also in essays i talked about my fierce dedication to some impossible goals i have, Mars Society involvement: volunteer award, president of next-generation chapter, was once a Sectionals-level swimmer, winner of egg drop contest, APs: five 5s and three 4s, taking 8 legitimate classes this semester, including 5 APs and 1 post-AP (multi-calc), great recommendations, national merit semi, i go to a school that would be ranked 3rd in the country if they ranked schools that had less than 50 graduating seniors.

Deferred: Recommendations werent as good as my teachers told me, GPA too low (3.75) and waiting to see my grades this semester, too many other people with equally cool or cooler accomplishments, standardized test scores average for stanford.

Rejected: nothing that distinguishes the things that distinguish me from the things that distinguish other people, lol, attitude conveyed in essays runs counter to what theyre looking for (i really dont think so, but i have no idea), the recommendation from my physics/math/engineering teacher was secretly bad (he is an enigma!!!).

Hey somebodynew you go to Prep? I go to St. Anselm's, facebook me.

My case is similar to yours in that I'm the only one from my school applying... I dont understand why you think that would hurt our chances...

Accepted: Very strong passion, and motivation. Deaf and English not my first language. Maintain in hearing classes, and ranks 8th. Probably the best in math in my school.

Deferred: Didn't take advanced science classes 10th grade. No SATII science.

Rejected: Bad EC, wrong essay, little awards.

accepted: good lookin', can rap.

deferred: want to go to wharton and join penn's new class of 2010 rap group

lol jk

Accepted: Good grades (5/460). Good SAT scores (770v, 790m, 800w, 800 World History, 790 US History, 780 IIC, 780 Chem), most likely strong recs, leadership in various ECs, essays I feel are pretty strong. A few state-level awards and honors.

Deferred: Nothing I did was too special, such as starting a club to end world hunger on campus or win some crazy math/science/engineering competition.

Rejected: Asian-American. ECs are too academic in nature.

I despise facebook - it was a cancer that spread throughout my school. The computer lab had ceased to be a haven for me and my friends and was inundated with facebookers.

I just don't see Stanford taking 3 guys from Prep when historically they rarely admit any guys from my school.

Oh, and tell Ben Pecararo I said hey.

I definitely want to get my acceptance letter in 10 days and no longer having to worry any more.

I'm hoping for at least a deferral though. This way I'll at least continue to the next round.

I am new to the forum, but I love Stanford so here goes:

Accepted: high SAT (790 math, 740 verbal, 800 writing), good SAT IIs (800 math 2c, 780 chem, 760 u.s. history), good A.P. Scores (4 5's and 1 4), 4.0 G.P.A., black minority male, started debate team that did relatively well at national competitions this year, Governor Honor Program, Merit/Achievement Semis, pretty good long essay (or so I hope), 3 Stanford Courses completed at University level with A's in all. Lots of statewide and national awards.

Deferred: O.K. Teacher reccomendation, BOMBED the intellectual short essay possibly (I wrote about thinking of Derrida's gift as being a great intellectual idea and one that was stimulating to me, but it does not exactly apply to me personally, such as bisection or neurosurgery etc... but who knows, my approach may have been original)... little work experience, not having the IT factor they are looking for

Rejected: I'm from GA which has few applicants accepted. My school is not nationally ranked and is a relatively small unknown private school. Brand new counselor this year. Asking for high amounts of money. Reasons from deferal. Other admissions factors.

I hope I did this correctly!!! This decision process is killing me though, but it is so exciting.

So i dunno hah. Here are some things i have been thinking about though:

2210 SAT score. GPA of 3.43 i think, on the usual scale. go 2 an awesome boarding school in NH but live in south florida. last summer i worked in a lab @ stanford--really cool experience with mice and brain slicing. the summer before that i went 2 taiwan 2 study chinese, which had plenty of crazy stories of its own. summer before that i burned sugarcane on my neighbor's farm (do i need 2 explain y i burned 700 acres???). during the year, im into campus politics and love drawing cartoons for the school newspaper. at home, i kinda just chill. i like chasing iguanas, listening 2 music, going to the beach, and hanging out with friends and family (i have 3 brothers, 2 in wheelchairs). i wrote my essays about my mom and growing up in a wheelchair family, my lab experience, my taiwan program, and drawing as a hobby. anyway, i really like biology, IR, and econ, but i dont know how well stanford will see that. i can hope right?

SoFlo561, OCAC?
