Check out this cool video of the Eagle coming into Norfolk for Harbor Fest. It features Connecticut's(and CGA crew's) own Louise Mandour-Brackin.

Cool video! Thanks for the link. Could you tell what class was on board? When does your son embark and how long will he be aboard?

Right now it's the first phase which is half the 3/c cadets; my son goes on board June 17th for second phase which is the other half of the 3/c. Then in late July-early August the 4/c(swabs) go out for a week each(three groups). The 3/c go for six weeks each.

Does the Eagle get that kind of press coverage everywhere she docks? I'm envisioning crowds when we try to see her in Newport. Maybe it's no big deal to New Englanders. We might try Portsmith, NH if that would be less crowded.

Do you happen to know which location would make it easier to tour the ship? The older I get the less I like crowds. Plus I will have little ones with me.

Not always. It depends I guess on the event or venue. In this case it was the centerpiece of a large harbor festival. At Newport it may not be such a big deal as they are close to the Eagle's home port of New London. However there will be a change of command ceremony there so you may want to go to Portsmouth instead. Not sure if that ceremony is open to the public per se. Anyway, it's a great thing for the young kids to see as well.

By change of command do mean that Captain Shaw, who was interviewed on the video, will be replaced by someone else? Portsmouth (got it)

Yes he will be finishing a three-year tour as the captain of the Eagle.

Who will be the Captain - do you know yet?

No I haven't as yet...if I do I'll post it.

Boss, I'd really appreciate it you could post the date and time of the change of command ceremony, as well - if you happen to find out. I've been checking the CGA website daily but there is no news as of yet. I don't have a kid there so maybe you'll know before or even if they post it.

Ok I will asap. We usually get the info about a week in advance.

Was a great weekend! The reason for the Norfolk crowd was that it was the 30th annual Harborfest and quite an event.
Eagle is due home in New London tomorrow!
