Weaknesses: GPA...

thank you guys!

My son is a freshman at Vassar and got in with similar stats. He also was an Eagle Scout. He is Physics major which is probably unique for Vassar. Being a male helps. The only question is your GPA and the rigor of courses you are taking. This is very important to Vassar admissions. I think you have a very good chance as long as you have taken a rigorous junior and senior year schedule(lots of AP’s, IB’s or Honors). Good Luck!

Yes, I definitely have a rigorous schedule this year with 5 AP’s and an honors. Thank you so much for the post :)

anyone else? :3

Honestly, Eagle Scout helps anywhere. My brother is one, has similar reqs, still didn’t get into UPenn, but other similar schools. Vassar wants to know that you can contribute to their school- clearly band and debate will help you there. And admissions officers recognize that the more a student does the less likely GPA is stellar.

My S is also an Eagle Scout and just received the Vigil award… highest honor is scouting that only a very small % ever achieve. He has over 800 hrs community service with Order of the Arrow( honor society of scouting) and conservation efforts all over the US… is interning this summer with Student Conservation in the back country of Alaska. He is away at a school in Vermont( we are in CA) where you live, work, and go to school on an organic rural farm with 45 other Juniors from all over the US. I like what Vassarfreshie said “that the more a student does the less likely his GPA is steller.” My S was willing to take the risk of a lower GPA so he could be as involved in his EC’s as he is. It might hurt him at some schools but he is okay with that. He has a very challenging schedule and has outstanding test scores… we will see how the cookie crumbles next year… Let us know how it works out for you meowmcow… your stats seem very similar to my S’s… although his GPA will be more like 3.5 and will have only 4 AP’s total.

I definitely will 5boys, good luck to your son! And thanks vassarfreshie :3
