As the title suggests, I will be an Eagle Scout by March of my senior year (I am a sophomore right now).
My troop requires that eligible scouts must be 17, so senior year is my only option. I have completed most of the required merit badges, and the only things remaining are the project (which I’m planning out this summer) and the leadership positions.
My last leadership term will end in March, so before I turn 18 in June, I should become an Eagle Scout. Now comes the question regarding how I would put this on a college application for uber-competitive college like MIT and CMU.
I understand that there is paperwork for Eagle Scout and everything may not go to plan, but I think putting Eagle Scout on my application would really make me stand out. But if I’m not Eagle Scout when I apply, how will I put the 13 years of scouting commitment that I have to another use in helping me get accepted to my dream colleges?
Thanks for everyone’s help in advance.
My son put “Eagle Scout candidate” in his Fall applications with an expected award date.
Also call your council and find out if your troop can require that age. I don’t think they can since they would be going against National rules.
Agree that you should put Eagle Scout Candidate on your application,
It should be noted that you troop’s minimum age requirement for Eagle Scouts is in violation of BSA Advancement Guidelines and is not permitted. There is not minimum age for any rank and it is not permitted for a troop to impose a minimum age (or any other additional) requirement for a rank.
I’ll ask around my troop about the age requirement, but I will make Eagle when I am 17, so it makes no difference to me. Thanks for your suggestions!
Yeah, I earned Eagle at 14. That should not be a requirement for Eagle Scout, no matter where you are located. It is indeed a violation because they are delaying the process. There is no minimum age for eagle scout. You are fine as long as you have the credentials.
