Eagle Scout vs. Multitudes of ECs

I have a friend who at this timne has essentially no significant ECs but despite his counselor, his friends (myself included) and others he claims that his acquisition of the Eagle Scout Boy scout position will make up for his lack of other activities. Though I know that the ES award is very prestigious I am not sure how much weight it carries and feel as if my friends is slightly misguided.

Do you think that becoming an Eagle scout excuses you from having a bad EC record?

Not really. I got my Eagle Scout last year, but had a few other EC’s (nothing great, though; no MUN or Mock Trial or anything). If he was really dedicated and involved in Boy Scouts and can write a great essay about it, it might be enough, but in general a little more is better. But remember, colleges don’t want to see a laundry list of EC’s, but rather commitment to a few strong ones.
