Does anyone have any experience/luck with merit aid for Eagle Scout rank? Any east coast schools that value this (along with other decent stats)? S is aware of NESA website, but any other suggestions for where to apply for merit aid?

I had no idea about ES-related scholarships until this week, when I went to pick up ds’s Eagle Scout kit. Many on here have ES, so I hope you (and I!) get some response.

I have an Eagle Scout…we missed the deadline by paperwork we received having one deadline and the website having another. Most colleges have written handwritten notes at the bottom of recruiting letters noting congrats on Eagle Scout. So far he has gotten one big scholarship offer from a school he doesn’t want to attend. Other than that, we’re very disappointed that it doesn’t seem to have mattered to the school of his choice.

DS didn’t apply for any Eagle Scout scholarships. I’m not aware of colleges that have specific scholarships/merit money for Eagles. We viewed it more as a strong EC and a plus for admissions rather than a way to get merit money.

My overall feeling is that merit money is shrinking this year as need-based aid increases, due to the economy.

George Mason University admissions recently (a few months ago) stated that they put all Eagle Scout applications in an entirely different pile, they look so favorably upon it.

My son had a pretty good response from private schools re:Eagle Scout. One I’m pretty sure earned him extra dollars. Another wanted to know about his continued involvement with scouting. We didn’t look too hard to outside scholarships. He received a full ride at a state school and that seemed to eliminate him from local scholarships.
