Eagle Scout

I would see no problem with basing a leadership essay on a scouting experience. If properly drafted, it would lend substance to your participation in the scouting program. The essence of scouting after all is, at least in theory, about leadership development.

If you do decide to write such an essay I would suggest that you try to identify a particular situation and write about the lesson you learned from that experience rather than be overly general. Emphasize the learning experience and not your involvement in scouting, which is reflected elsewhere in the application.

The reason ds wrote about his Eagle project is because it very much tied into his intended major. We thought it was another thing that demonstrated his passion for his chosen field.

You might use the search function, there have been many threads on this. It’s certainly an EC that shows commitment, but today so many do that it just doesn’t stand out the way it once may have.

About oboes…it’s more a trade joke.

Ha, I know what you do it scouts, and and I know the commitment. Still, it is no hook nor anything superior to another EC that you have been doing for 4 years. Think about it, if you do Basketball for 4 years, get 2 letters, and make an All-district team, then you have something that almost equates to Eagle. However, I don’t want to insult the Eagles out there, so please, understand what I am getting at.
