Visiting and doing an overnight in two weeks. Is there anything I should know before the visit? What about good places to eat in town?

My daughter and I visited during the Summer open day in August. We stayed at the Holiday Inn about 2 miles from the campus. It was fine for the time we spent there. There was a Cracker Barrel and an IHOP near the hotel and a Starbucks just down the street. I can’t really recall any “fancy” places but there are certainly familiar names that are conveniently located.

As for the school, my daughter loved it. The staff and students couldn’t have been any nicer. It’s true what you read about the vibe of the school being hard to describe. It is just a very nice place filled with what seem to be good kids. The admissions team is also very transparent about what they look for, diversity levels, etc.

Yeah! Thanks for the reply. My wife and I will be staying in the same Holiday Inn while our D does an overnight and visits classes. Earlham looks like a great school and I am anxious to find out what D thinks about it after our visit next week.

My daughter is a senior at Earlham and we’ve made numerous visits to Richmond. Here’s a helpful website for first time visitors:

[Richmond / Wayne County, Indiana](http://visitrichmond.org/)

The fanciest restaurant is The Olde Richmond Inn. We like to patronize the Carver Family restaurant on north Chester Blvd, near the Reid Hospital. It’s run by a Greek family and has many Greek dishes, an extensive menu, and generous portions (you’ll probably need a doggie bag).

What are some activities that you might be interested in?

Thank you for the link to Richmond and Wayne County. The Carver Family restaurant sounds like a place we will put on our list to visit while in town. Our D is looking forward to her overnight and checking out the campus.

Ditto on tpirrie’s comments. S and I stayed at Holiday Inn, it was fine. Lots of stuff around there on the National Road–Starbuck’s, IHOP, movie–S and I both were pleasantly surprised by how much there. Son loved the school–beautiful campus, very nice people in admissions, sat in on a terrific class, tour very good. We had a faculty member come out of her office when she heard us going by to answer questions. Son ended up sitting with a group of students at lunch for over an hour, 2 or 3 (not tour guide kids, they were just there) seemed like they were willing to talk as long as he wanted to. They seemed genuinely to love the school and believe that they were getting a great education, had caring professors, lots to do, etc. I would have signed on the dotted line right there if possible, I was wishing I had gone there!
