Does going to an earlier orientation date mean that you are more likely to get your first choice classes vs going to the last orientation?
I am hesitating if I should move my current orientation date(June 12th-14th) to July 5th to July 7th because that’ll be after AP scores come out so I could plan accordingly.
They say that they to open up seats for the basic classes at each new orientation registration session. but for lots of other classes, FIGS, etc, I think it definitely helps to go earlier. And put together several schedules with various classes that work so you will be ready the minute it turns on. Prioritize which classes in order. My DD 2020 went to the second and while she got her classes, it was not with her first choice profs or times necessarily. Just gotta suck it up. This year was even worse…had trouble getting a lot of required courses. It’s the hunger games of registration. Good luck.
I would also like some input on this. If I have most of my basic classes taken care of, will I be able to sign up for the other classes I need at orientation?
Based on my own experience (did it 3 years ago so might not still be the case), it does help your registration if you went to an early orientation. I went to the second orientation session and we registered in the morning of the last day compared to my roommate who went to the last orientation and registered on his third day, which was almost a month later (not exactly sure about the time difference but it was quite late). However it doesn’t really mater since as freshmen we all registered for intro classes which all held large student capacities and could rarely be filled up, it’s a totally different situation with others competing for a spot in some 40-student classes.
Also if you are in any incoming student group like TIP/Gateway/etc, you will be given options on the registration day to go to their reserved area/section where you can still be added even if the class is already full, that’s because most of those groups have reserved spots for their student in many intro classes and you will be covered during the registration. Hope this helps
