Early Action 2014

Joining in here: Our son was accepted at Beloit with a Presidential Scholarship as well. It was his top choice, and the scholarship is generous (23K), so he will be going to Beloit! He had planned to apply to Grinnell, Macalester, Kenyon, Kalamazoo, and College of Wooster, but they are all out of the running now. My spouse and I are alumni of Grinnell, so we were pushing hard for it, but he was not really interested. Kenyon was a close second to Beloit, but the frat scene, plus some other factors, gave us all pause.

We will be attending the February admitted students event, weather permitting! Very excited. My spouse and son visited Beloit last spring, so I have no first-hand knowledge of it yet, but spouse loved it. He said it reminded him of how Grinnell used to be, when we attended (very quirky, a little rough around the edges, full of creative, unconventional people).

That’s great! And I think that description is apt. My image of Grinnell was formed way back when, so I was a mildly surprised at how it is now-- no more rough edges.

I’m hoping my daughter goes to the overnight in February even though she’s not sure about the location. The kids we met last year were definitely her people.

My son is also into Beloit EA with a Presidential merit award. He got similar amounts from Lawrence and Wooster. He personally ranked Beloit third of those options; he liked it overall but it didn’t click with him the way Wooster and Lawrence did. I agree with other posters that it’s not a perfectly manicured place but that gives it some of its charm. I think the gut check is important if finances all work out. I’d much rather send my kid to a school he is really excited about than one that seems right on paper but doesn’t feel right.

I also got the Presidential Scholarship, but I applied RD.

I was admitted early action with a $25,000 Presidential Scholarship. Hearing from a school early definitely makes waiting until April 1st less painful!

I still haven’t heard anything from Beloit and I’m an international…Does that mean that I’m rejected? :-S
