When will the acceptance letters be out for those of us who applied early action?

I believe mid December. Check UofV’s website

We don’t have a specific notification date. We will make an announcement by the end of January. I always post the date on the admission blog when the time comes.

[Notes from Peabody: The UVA Application Process](http://uvaapplication.blogspot.com/)

Last year it was around Jan 11-12

For Early Action, does UVA want mid-semester grades? Now?

No, midterm grades for most schools won’t be available until early January, those that take midterms before winter break. Some schools don’t take midterms until later in January, the midterm report available in early February. Your GC should know that all schools, not just EA, need midterm transcripts as soon as possible.

Many schools make EA/ED offers before seeing midterm transcripts. Students are still required to submit them, and they are expected to be inline with the students academic profile they were admitted with. Your Sr year grads matter.

If you’re asking do they need your first quarter grades, no that’s not required. If they are higher then what you have been achieving on average in the past (ie straight As with a rigorous load, whereas previously you had a couple of B/B+s mixed in) I would most certainly send the updated grades. If you’ve always had outstanding grades and the first quarter shows more of the same I wouldn’t feel you need to send them. Certainly consult with your GC. Sending is the exception not the rule.

HTH

D’s school (private DC) has a standing rule that --requested or not-- first quarter grades are sent to the schools of children applying Early Action or Rolling. Later, first semester grades are sent to Regular Decision applications and anyone else requesting them. This really curbs Senioritis… Make certain to check your high school’s policy!—they vary from school to school–regardless of what the college or university may require.

The electronic reply said all materials have been received. Just missing midterm transcripts. I didn’t realize these had to be sent

UVa expects them to be sent when they are available. For some that will be early January, others early February. Schools start at different times (mid August through Labor Day) so midterms are spread out over several weeks. All applicants, EA or RD, are required to send midyear transcripts. As washdcmom points out GCs handle this differently, sometimes sending quarterly grades as well. Your GC should know to send the midyear transcript, however if it makes you feel better you can certainly mention it to them.

Ok, thank you. But since our first semester doesn’t end until January 25th, admissions will make a decision about me before that, right?

Yes, that is correct. Our high school is the same, midterm transcripts not being available until February. In your case as an EA applicant, if accepted or deferred to RD your GC will need to send the midterm transcript. It’s a ‘messy’ time of who has what available when. No one is penalized for not sending what isn’t available at their school. I believe the website has a deadline of 2/15 for submitting midterm transcripts. Even schools that start after Labor Day should be able to meet that deadline.

My application no longer ask for the mid term grades when it did last week. It says decision. You click on it and it says decision will be January 31,2014. Should I assume that I have been denied because they no longer ask for mid year report? Can someone who applied early on please check to see what your status is.

I addressed the “view decision” box on the blog…

Thank you!

When are the FAFSA and CSS profile forms due for early action admission?
