does anyone know which is a better program? the UASP or Honors?

UASP is offered to a more select group of students than honors. The university hopes to have about 200 in the UASP program out of the freshman class. These students also get consideration for the Stamp scholarship. This scholarship offers them more opportunities and a $10,000 stipend for research and study abroad. My son received his UASP letter today.

Musikman, congrats, that is great news! Do you think your son will be attending, or does he have other options? If you don’t mind sharing, what are his stats? Thanks, and again, congrats to your son.

He has Been accepted to The a University of Illinois, the University of Michigan, and Ohio State. We are waiting to hear from Northwestern and Rice. My son loves Miami, my daughter is a sophomore there, and both my husband and I have degrees from Miami, so we would be happy to see him there. He wants to major in engineering, and we want him to go to the best school at the best price, so it depends on the scholarships offered from each school. Here are his stats:

Thanks! Good luck to you!

For all those accepted so far, are you in state or out of state?

Out of state with above the minimum credentials for the minimum of half tuition scholarship and no word yet :/

My D is OOS. Merit awards have not been given out yet.

In state. Some applicants are being notified of merit awards that are connected with UASP.

My D is OOS. 1410 M+CR (2140 total), 3.72 UW (IB diploma), no merit award notice or UASP (don’t expect that).

My daughter is OOS. 32 ACT, 3.96 UW GPA. No word on final scholarship amount yet.

Daughter’s scholarship letter arrived in the mail today. She is OOS with a 33 ACT, 3.85 UW GPA, 3 AP’s to date, taking 5 more AP classes this year. Scholarship amount was $14K per year ($56K total). Unless we read it incorrectly, the minimum award listed on the Miami admissions website for an individual with a 32+ ACT and a 3.7+ GPA is slightly higher ($14,325 per year, $57,600 total).

Son received his scholarship letter today too! He was offered $15,075 in addition to the $2000 UASP scholarship. We are wondering if that means he is out of the running for the Stamp scholarship. Very happy with full tuition plus $2000 towards room and board!!!

Son received scholarship today also. He got 27,250 per year. YIPPEE!!!
Does anyone know the amount of full tuition.
I think I owe him a car.

@1234mom…is that a combination of the guaranteed scholarships and the UASP scholarship? What are your son’s stats? Did he get the Stamp scholarship? We were wondering if they were announced. Most schools dont announce the Stamp scholarships until Spring. Full tuition is between 13,000 and 14,000 per year. Congrats to your son!

@formertarheel - The minimum with those stats is half to full tuition per year. Here’s the website: [University Merit Scholarships | Miami Scholarships | Scholarships | High School Students | Financial Aid | Admission | Miami University](<a href=“Costs, Scholarships, and Financial Aid | Miami University”>Costs, Scholarships, and Financial Aid | Miami University)
Congrats to your daughter!

@1214 mom- are you out of state?
My son wants to come live with you if you are giving out cars! Lol!

Actually the INSTATE tuition is 13K per year. It’s near $30K for OOS students:

[Tuition and Costs | Financial Aid | Admission | Miami University](<a href=“Costs, Scholarships, and Financial Aid | Miami University”>Costs, Scholarships, and Financial Aid | Miami University)

I too received an offer of $14,000 per year from Miami, as an out of state student. However, the letter did not mention UASP or an award for it. Musikman, how did you receive notification of your UASP award? And does anyone know if I can expect my award to increase by the final March date for scholarships? I meet all the requirements for the top tier award, based on their chart (here: [University Merit Scholarships | Miami Scholarships | Scholarships | High School Students | Financial Aid | Admission | Miami University](<a href=“Costs, Scholarships, and Financial Aid | Miami University”>Costs, Scholarships, and Financial Aid | Miami University)), but have been offered just below the minimum guaranteed award…?

$14K is about half tuition for OOS so is the top tier award, albeit only the half. ($14*4=56K)

Can anyone tell me if Miami University recalculautes GPA when evaluating an applicant for possible scholarship money? We are OOS. Thank you.
