My daughter’s “Finacial Aid” link on ecampus used to say “Access Denial”. It disappears today and there’s a link for Aid Year 2011 and an “I Agree” button following that link, but no other information. Is it an indication of merit aid? (Not qualify for need-aid).

For anyone confused on merit aid, if you did not recieve notification in your acceptance letter you unfortunately are not the reciepient of any. I was notified of my Provost scholarship status in my letter, then they emailed me a few days ago and said i could acces my need-based aid online. i logged on and it took me forever to find out how to view my aid (after you click the financial aid heading in the upper left corner scroll down and click “return”). It had my estimated federal aid and my additional SCU need based aid. hope this helps anyone confused on aid! and congrats to all

this is not necessarily true. i received a dean’s scholarship of $12,000 and an additional $16,000 of scholarship money that was NOT stated in my acceptance letter. Only Presidential and Provost is stated in the acceptance letters, but it is possible to still receive more than a half-tuition scholarship if you aren’t technically a “Provost Scholar”.

the website says if any other merit scholarships are given to a provost scholarship, they must be coordinated so they do not exceed half tuition. so i think its just half tuition for all four years. however, it’s indexed to tuition increases so you will always receive half tuition. there are no separate applications for any merit aid, as far as I know.

You can get more than half tuition if you applied and received scholarships outside of the school. When Santa Clara mentions “cannot exceed” it is talking about the financial aid (merit and need) provided solely by the school.

For example, if you were accepted to the honors program, there is an additional $2k scholarship. If you are a provost scholar, your scholarship would be deducted by $2k to not exceed half. But, if you were to receive money (say 2k) from an outside organization, your scholarship would not be deducted by $2k.

I am slightly confused about the aid of a Provost scholar not exceeding half tuition, because that seems like it would directly target financially needy high achieving students. seems very unfair. if someones EFC was extremely low, they would be SOL. Also, I recieved $12k more in SCU grants and my Estimated Federal Grants were around $6k. I had previously been under the impression i could not ge granted over $18k (half tuition) but at the bottom of my aid award it had my aid totaled at $36k (excluding loans and work study etc.). This leads me to believe I will in fact be recieving all of the aid they have awarded.

We did not check the fin aid box^^ Son got Merit award. He had gotten an email about CSS deadline and so we filled that one out. Wonder if that had anything to do with it.

Say, have any of you been getting email or regular mail from SCU or alumni? There is a note in another thread saying that there would be a lot of contact and D hasn’t received anything other than the acceptance letter and the fin-aid offer.

Daughter got a standardized letter from the VP for academic Affairs to welcome and congratulate her and invite her to the Preview Days in April. She also got a phone call last week from a current student to see if she had any questions about SCU.
