Early Action Application Update

I just got my counselor minute from GT and thought I would share this info from the report:

"The October 15 Early Action deadline has passed. Here are a few stats on where we are compared to last year: Total applications — approximately 16,000 (5.4% increase)

Top 5 states (after Georgia) — FL, NC, CA, NJ, TX

State with the highest percentage increase — Idaho (Boise are we surprised!)"

Although the 16K number is an increase in applications, it is not as bad as some predicted. The use of the Common App continues to drive up numbers however I think admission rates will stay pretty similar in the EA round compared to last year.

With respect to the Stamps Presidential Scholar program, here is what GT’s report said:

"To be considered, a student only needs to apply by the Early Action deadline. Of the students who have applied by the EA deadline, around 325 semifinalists are selected and interviewed regionally from the pool of applicants. From there, around 100 finalists are selected to come to Tech for Finalist Weekend in late spring. Ultimately, 40 students are offered the scholarship. "

Hope EA applicants find this info helpful.
