Early Action at Princeton? Will chance back!

I am interested in applying SCEA to Princeton, as it is a clear first choice, and the fact that it is nonbinding is good for my financial situation. I'm wondering, however, if I have a realistic chance of getting in

-3.8 gpa at a prestigious private school taking the most rigorous course load available to me.
-2220 SAT superscore (800CR, 700M, 720W). I'm retaking in October, and I'm gunning for 750+ in both Math and Writing. Overall, I want at least a 2300 superscore.
-800 Bio, 800 chem, 760 Math 2 (each taken once)
AP's: Chem 5, Bio 5 (school doesn't really do AP's)
EC's:
Viola in orchestra (first chair) 11-12, also study privately
Model UN (10-12) Vice President(12)
Varsity Fencing team saber starter (11-12)
Varisty Ultimate Frisbee team starting handler (10-12)
Summer after 9th grade- One month homestay cultural immersion program in the south of France
Summer after 10th grade- Science research program for five weeks. Presented research at school and a national science conference(AJAS).
Summer after 11th grade- Science research intern for nine weeks. Will present research at school, and hopefully national science conference.

Besides Princeton, I'm applying RD to:

Duke
University of Richmond
Harvard
Yale
Williams
Dartmouth
University of Rochester
Bowdoin
Wash U
Wesleyan
Rice
Lafayette
Davidson
Northwestern

In addition to telling me if SCEA is a viable option, I'd appreciate it if you could comment on my list(if it's balanced etc.) Thanks!

1) You have just as good a chance as any competitive applicant for Princeton.

2) Personally, I think applying to 15 schools is insane. I would advise applying to 6-10 schools, with at LEAST one safety. (I’m applying to 8 schools: 4 reaches, 2 matches, 1 low match, 1 safety)

@thebeatlestoday yes, i will definitely be cutting down on the schools.

Would you(or anybody) consider Northwestern, Wash U and Rice as “matches”? I’m not really sure what on this list is a match. Thanks.

NU/WashU have a very low RD acceptance rate, so not I don’t consider them matches for you. You’re ECs are decent, stats are average, so I’d say you have a slightly better chance since it’s SCEA. Good luck

Definitely competitive. Low reach. Chance me back!

You are definitely a strong applicant, but it is still a reach as it is for anyone. The rest of the schools, I think are matches for you/ safeties except ivies +Duke.

Could anybody else give me some opinions on the other schools on my list and/or princeton scea? Thanks, I’ll be sure to chance back.

Anyone else?

Bump…a few more opinions would be nice :)

You seem to be very competitive at Princeton but I think you have the least chance of getting in there than any of your schools you wish to apply to. Good luck! Chance? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1544121-chance-duke-ed.html

I would say that you are a competitive applicant for any of these schools, you will get into a few. I wouldn’t call WashU or Northwestern straight matches, both of those schools are getting harder and harder to get into. Thanks for the chance, good luck in your application process!

You’re a very competitive applicant. You have great grades, scores, and ECs. However, Princeton, even SCEA, is a reach for EVERYONE. You’re amazingly qualified, but guess what? They get a couple thousand apps every year out of the some 10,000 they get total who are JUST AS QUALIFIED. You have as good a chance as the rest of them.

Bump…do you guys think it’s a good choice to go ahead and apply scea to princeton? It is my first choice, but I’m trying to be realistic with my chances, and search for my best option. Thanks.

If it’s your first choice, apply. I (and everyone else) say this to everyone with Ivy dreams: They are reaches to everyone. If Princeton is your first choice, apply SCEA. You have the stats to get in, and if you’re rejected that sucks but you can just apply to another school. If you don’t apply, however, you’re going to kick yourself for the rest of your life wondering if you could have gotten into Princeton.

Just apply. The worst thing that could happen is a rejection, which you can move on from.

Thanks @ruprex. That’s exactly what I wanted. I know that being an Ivy, and furthermore part of HYP, Princeton is a stretch for anybody. I just wanted to know given my stats if it would be worth it to apply SCEA.

Assuming your 3.8 gpa is unweighted, your SAT IIs, APs, leadership, and summer programs all are great. I consider URochester and Rice to be good safeties for you. For Princeton and the other Ivies you would be a good applicant as well, though your gpa isn’t likely to wow them.

@jae221 do they consider the type of school I’m coming from when they look at my gpa?
