Early Action at UMich

So, my June SATs were far from stellar (1150) due to family problems at the time, so I was wondering if I would be able to report my October 2016 SAT in time for the EA deadline. It says on the website that they won’t accept it but they will accept an earlier one. I’m just very confused with this, anyone care to shed some light on this and give me some help on how I can send them in October! Thanks!!

You also have the option of taking the September ACT which will make the deadline. Michigan defers a lot of people to RD, which is the likely outcome if your other stats are good and you mention that you are retaking the October SAT.

Take the September exam. Otherwise, you will very likely be deferred to RD.

The way it works is that you have to have a score sent before you apply. This happened to me last year you are still able to take the October SAT make sure to go online and specify that it gets sent to Michigan so it gets there as fast as possible. They just want another score before you apply but if you send your October score right when it comes out they will review it for EA. I would also recommend taking the ACT because sometimes the SAT is not for everyone. I wish I had taken the ACT last year. Also remember if you are deferred that doesn’t mean reject, I know lots of people say this but I was deferred but got an email early February saying I got in.

When I visited, an admissions officer said that if you are planning on taking the SAT or ACT in October you should send in your current scores and send your October scores as soon as you get them, and they will replace your old scores with the new.

I also brought up this issue with an admissions rep during a Michigan “View of the U” recruiting event and got exactly the same response as @edegops got. It makes sense to go about it that way.

Yes, they have been suggesting that for years. If you have a score submitted before deadline, that would keep your application in the process while new scores received a few weeks later will be added to your file. If your application is not complete by deadline, it will be deferred.
