Early Action Candidates' Day 2013

Brave Ulysses, thank you for your message. Unfortunately I don’t have enough posts to message you back? That is weird. In any case, I have booked the Radnor at your suggestion - it looks lovely. Hopefully I can rack up some posts to message you back lol!

Dissnoops- regarding orientation: Orientation is after move in and before 1st day of class and lasts 3 or 4 days. Move in day is crazy but well managed. Link to 2012 orientation [New Student Orientation | Villanova University](http://www1.villanova.edu/villanova/studentlife/orientation.html)

Early move in is available for some students involved in various programs like athletes , orientation leaders , blue key , music and dance , etc.

Since archiemom talked about going to the Nova Mediterranean Grill, I just want to point out that it isn’t a normal grill sit-down type place. It’s pretty good, but the food is relatively expensive and it’s a bit different.

As the father of a freshman chem engineering major, my son and I attended last year and enjoyed the day very much. I highly recommend it. We only attended on Saturday.
I have stayed in the Comfort Inn and Hampton Inn both in KOP. Hampton Inn was fine.
If I remember correctly breakfast and lunch was offered on the campus.

I will not be able to attend EA candidates day and I am very disappointed. I had my scholarship interview yesterday and I loved my interviewer. Wow–she was a great spokesperson for VU. I will be visiting this march-- will I get the same information?

You won’t get the same information. If I remember correctly they have a little talk by the admissions office along with a video and then you get taken on a campus tour. Definitely feel free to contact someone in your department/college and see if you could possibly talk to them if you have questions specifically for that area.

The other option is to wait until April and there should be another Candidates’ Day for the Regular Decision people that I think you would be invited to as well.

Thank you Joe!

My S and I are attending the Honors program event on Friday, but can’t stay til Saturday. I don’t think there’s a tour scheduled on Friday though. Should we arrive early and take the normal campus 11:30 tour? Also, what dining hall can we get into for lunch because I don’t see that on the honors program schedule either. It says to arrive at 1 pm for registration.
thanks for your advice!

I would suggest trying to get there early and signing up for the campus tour. If you have a problem with getting there then, PM me and I can take you around campus after the honors thing or something, but I’m not an official tour guide or anything.
As for lunch, you can probably get into the main dining halls, though you may need a student to say you are with them or something to get you in. I have class during that time so I won’t be able to do that for you. That would most likely be at Dougherty Hall though (assuming you don’t go to South or West campus). The other option is to pay for your food in the Connelly Center, though it can be a little pricey - students just use meals on it.

Thanks joe125. I’ll see how our schedule works out.

What is the typical apparel for parents and students attending Accepted Students Day?

You’ll see everything. Some people will dress up. I would say typically the students are in their normal clothes (jeans, t-shirt, sweatshirt) with parents typically being dressed a little bit nicer (khakis and a polo or button down shirt). But honestly, anything works and I’m sure you will see it all there.

Does anyone know where exactly we are supposed to park our cars on Sat. I just received an e-mail with the itinerary but I don’t see anything about parking and I haven’t received a parking pass.

You probably can park in either of the main parking lots on Lancaster Avenue. Usually for events like basketball games, football games, open houses, etc. they don’t require passes/permits to park there.

Brave Ulysses thanks for recommending The Radnor Hotel. Pretty place practically walking distance from Villanova. Early Action Candidates Day was a big success for my son - he told me last night he can’t imagine going to any of the other schools he has applied to and/or been accepted to - this school just “fits”. I suspect we will be staying at The Radnor for the next 4 years. Wish we had time last night to take the train from Villanova into Philly - maybe next trip.

Glad it worked out and best of luck with Villanova or elsewhere if your plans change. Glad I can help and feel free to contact me for any other advice from a parental perspective.
