“essays will be very good as will recommendations”

Now, there’s no guarantee of that, is there ;)

Yeah, your math SAT definitely needs some work, and middle school grades don’t count. Also when you say “out of 5” that usually implies that a 5 is attainable. I’m kind of surprised that you have a 4.67 wGPA and still 15th, what’s your uwGPA?

^I must disagree with this guy; you’ve got an excellent shot with a 2180 SAT, providing you’re not majoring in math. In my judgment, there is virtually no distinction between SAT scores once you wind up exceeding 2200. Also, the Senate Page thing is remarkable; it should give you a boost. Just curious, which senator sponsored you?

To the first poster (not the OP of course), my **unweighted GPA is 3.9643 **my school does this weird thing where the IB classes are 5pts whereas things like state required classes, sports and the arts for which you have to audition to gain admitance (theatre production for me) are 4 points. Really, five isn’t attainable because in your whole high school career, you cannot take only five point classes. The valedictorian has a 4.7 or 4.8.

To the second, I was sponsored by Sen. Lincoln of Arkansas =)

@Jayster007 Seeing as how you added her Writing score into the equation, you’re probably not aware that it doesn’t count in Georgetown admissions. They only consider CR + M, so she really has a 1410/1600 SAT score, which roughly translates to 2100/2400 SAT. It is a small, but noticeable difference from a 2180/2400 score.

@tonkgirl13 Yes, I know that a five isn’t attainable, which is why I found it odd that you would say your wGPA is out of 5. I’m not sure if sports get counted into the GPA though, can someone else confirm if this is true or not?

Sports do count in GPA because they count as state required PE credits, and then elective credits after you’ve earned all the PE credits you need to get. I didn’t include the athletic study hall periods I was required to take with my track periods freshman ans sophmore year because they didn’t count in my GPA.

I think you are an excellent candidate and should apply early action–early action only helps your application at Georgetown; it never hurts–what school and program will you be applying to at Georgetown? What other colleges are you considering?

I want to apply to the SFS and major in Culture and Politics. I’ve looked at it all and just love it. =) I decided to go into Spanish 5 and take World Religions to kind of show the admissions committee that I’m really comitted to that line of study. I don’t know if they’ll see it that way, but I’m hoping they might. =)

other schools I’m looking at are UVA, William & Mary, Washington & Lee, U. of Richmond, Rice and Columbia. I’m just applying to Columbia for giggles though. I don’t actually think I’ll get in. haha =)

Georgetown SFS and Columbia are pretty compatible in re: admissions selectivity. I think you are a good candidate for both. Georgetown’s program is definitely the best among the schools you indicated. Best of luck!

Really? I didn’t know that. That’s interesting. I just thought that because it’s an Ivy it’d be way more selective than anything else. Oh well, shows how much I know about Columbia. =) Yup, and that’s the main reason I’m applying to Georgetown E.A. It’s the best for SFS out of what I’ve seen.

Thanks so much!

@flight: I see. I apologize for my rash post, and thanks for that. I might apply to Georgetown as well =D

Early Action is the best of all worlds for a student, because you still have to May 1 to decide. The worst that happens is you get deferred to the regular admissions pool. Being from Arkansas would also be a big plus for the northeastern colleges.

I’m and IB applicant too :)… Out of curiosity what are your SLs/HLs?

In response to Charlie’s post, I actually found that my writing improved from the since the beginning of my freshman year, and since your chances don’t improve from applying Early Action, I think it might be more beneficial to apply during the RD phase. Unless you know Georgetown is your first choice and that if accepted, you won’t bother applying anywhere else, saving you all the application fees and writing supplements.

to ZapadniyRus, I have already tested in SL Spanish and SL Art History. This year I’m taking Math SL, History of the Americas HL, World Religions SL, Spanish HL, Bio HL and English HL. I don’t need the SPanish or World Religions, but because I want to go into the SFS, I figured that it might make me look better.

What about you.

To flight23, Goergetown is my first choice. If I get in, I won’t bother applying anywhere else. =)

I’m taking Math HL, Bio HL, English HL, and History of Americas HL, Spanish SL and Chem SL. We’re taking three of four same HLs :)

Here is a page from the Georgetown website. Maybe you’ve seen it already.

[Georgetown University- Office of Undergraduate Admissions](http://uadmissions.georgetown.edu/applying_firstyear_sdprofile.cfm)

Since the SAT scores are higher for students admitted EA than those of students admitted general admission, I wonder which approach is better?

I have seen it and although my math score isn’t in the range, I’m still applying early action because I have a lot more things going for me than my test scores and I have to believe that the admissions comittee will see that. Also, the worst they can do in the EA round is deffer me where my scores will be more in line with the norm-ish. =)

Bump. =)

I love everyone’s opinions…and would love some more! =)
Yay for Georgetown chance threads!

please? Pretty please? =)
