Early Action Chances

Hi! I am a rising senior in high school and UGA is my number one college choice. I would really like to be admitted by December 15th and wanted to know what you all thought my odds are. Any help would be appreciated! (by the way, I am not mentioning EC's because I know Grades and scores are what matters for EA but I am involved in a wide variety of activities)

3.89 weighted GPA (3.80 unweighted)

6 Ap classes (World, Lang, USH, Lit, Environmental, Econ/Gov)

29 on the ACT (32 English, 29 Math, 31 Reading, 24 Science)

I know you guys see a lot of Chances, but please answer mine!

Please??? Anything???

Overall admissions stats for this year had the following medians:
3.87 GPA
29 ACT
6 AP/IB

As far as your chance for EA, it wouldn’t hurt to apply, but you don’t have a fantastic shot of getting in. I think you are definitely good for regular decision though as long as you have decent extra-ciriculars. :)

We can tell little from your GPA without a class rank attached. If you are in the top 10% of your class I would say you have a 60% chance of getting in EA and an even better chance RD.

Yes I am in the top 10% of my class (54 out of 599)

Hey im new to this website, and i can not really navigate my way around. I see that a lot of people post their thoughts and hope people come with some good answers. I am considering two choices of mine. There is alot of people that can not make up their mind with what education to go after. I am considering a bachelor in International Business and Politics, or going after an engineering degree. I live in Europe, but orriginally from Texas. I was told the Electrical engineering was in demand but a hard line to go after. I also see there is a trend in the business world and that everyone is getting a degree within business and economy so that jobs is really scarce. Can someone give me some advice on there own personal expierence

I’d say you def have a solid shot at RD but probably not EA (depending on how you calculated your gpa). I’m going to be going to UGA in the fall and I applied with 8 APs 3.92 GPA and 1850 SAT and was deferred (my school didn’t do class rank because my graduating class had 43 people)

A few things to consider:

-UGA has their own way of calculating your gpa when you send in your transcript. The gpa they post for their midrange is calculated using only the core classes you took in high school math/english/science/language and any APs. So for example my 3.92 GPA was brought down to something between a 3.7-3.8

-EA here is a good more difficult. More than half of the kids at my high school who got into UGA didn’t get in EA

-UGA, unlike many other schools, tends to weight GPA over SAT/ACT scores (that’s what they told me when I went to the info session as a senior)

-This one isn’t entirely fair and is more of an observation than a fact, but uga has a low proportion of minorities compared to other schools and when RD came around it was very obvious that a couple hispanic/black girls in our class got in with significantly lower scores than the rest of us including some people who were denied. So if you happen to be a minority, specifically hispanic, I would guess that that will increase your chances

-The vast majority of people going to UGA are from within the state of Georiga. My guess is that you are too (I have no idea why it would be your #1 college if you aren’t) but if by some chance you aren’t then that should also increase your chances a good bit too
