Early Action Class of 2017

njmom44 did they say anything about updating their internet portal on friday with their decisions?

Hi all,
I am a student currently a freshman enrolled at UNH in the business program (Currently WSBE, to be PCBE when you are there!). I applied early action by Nov. 10 last year and was admitted about a month later. For reference, my GPA was a 3.7 and I was in the top 10% of my class with a 1600 SAT score. Receiving financial aid from UNH is actually very difficult since they are suffering from reduced state funding so I’m not sure I would even count on those stats to guarantee aid.
In terms of Sandy, UNH was actually closed for two days. Students were urged to go home if possible and all other services were closed. I’m sure this also impacted the admissions office. Whoever posted that a large amount of the applicant pool suffered the storm is very correct. I have noticed that there are a large amount of students from New York, New Jersey and Connecticut that attend UNH. It’s hard for the admissions office to make decisions for early action without seeing the entire applicant pool. They only have a certain number of spots!
Furthermore, if you have any questions about the school, programs, housing, etc. please feel free to message me!

howsitgoing - No they did not but I will check anyway! Good luck!

Welp, sort of sucks got deferred and they want me to submit mid term grades to get re-evaluated. Little confused with my stats but oh well.

^^Yes, i am surprised you got deferred with your stats too. My son has a 1980/2400 SAT score and about a 3.37 GPA and he got into Mech Eng (Maybe they loved his ECs and essay, and LORs.) What are you applying for?

still nothing here… so much for UNH promising decisions were to be made by today

I will admit my Ec’s are a bit lacking (I have worked the past two years and the intial two years I played baseball and soccer). I am honestly surprised not trying to sound conceded but I thought I was more than qualified. Oh well I currently have a 3.8uw gpa this year weighted it is a 4.2 (taking 3 Ap’s and honors so a ton of weight).

Thatsmyboy it seems everyone is getting them in the mail they did say all decision would be done friday but mail may take up to another 7 days to reach everybody.

we only live 45 min away from UNH… just over the MA border. maybe we will get a letter tomorrow.
for those of you accepted, did you online status change or did you get a letter while the website said complete- ready for review?

sorry about your deferral Howsitgoing. From the looks of it, I believe you will get accepted in regular decision.
Keep sending them as much info as you can… updates to awards, any other volunteer work, maybe even another recommendation from a current teacher. We did that with my older S when he was waitlisted at a different school( in regular decision pool) It must have worked because he was the first one off the waitlist and got a scholarship too!

^^ My DS’s status in his online account changed and then we got a letter in the mail a few days later.

^^ Thanks. Guess we will keep checking…sigh

still sighing…

Anyone hear anythng yet?

I called admissions today because we haven’t received notification yet. I was told a letter was sent to my S on Janury 6 that we never received. S was deferred :frowning: and they want to see more grades. So if you applied EA and havent heard you may want to give them a call!

njmom - Oh that’s too bad.

I applied to UNH back in October and in December I was told that I had been deferred. Now I am just very nervouse about getting in. It’s my dream school. It’s really the only place I see myself.
I had a 3.0 when I applied to UNH but since then my GPA has gone up.
I am a varsity swimmer.
I got an 1170 on my SAT without writing and with writing I got an 1810.
On the ACT I got a 27.
Do you think I will be accepted in the regular decision pool?

Also, I was accepted to the University of Maine but haven’t had the chance to visit it yet. Is it similar to UNH?

Jordymill - My S was also defrred by UNH and accepted to UMaine. We have visited both schools. We visited UNH in September and Maine a few weeks ago. We really like them both. I think the major difference between the two would be the location. Not a lot happening in Orono, however, you are only about 10 mins from Bangor which looks to be a decent size town and they have buses that take you to Bangor. Durham seems to be more of a college town and you are so close to Boston and Portsmouth. The Maine campus is very nice. It is large, but very spread out, but no shuttles that take you from one end of campus to the other - very cold walk in the winter! Lots of water if you like to canoe or kayak (or ice fish!). I feel that an outdoorsy type of person would really like UMaine. Maine is at the top of my sons list - just waiting or the financial aid package to decide between Maine and URI. But if he ends up being accepted to UNH (your stats are better than his) then that will change things! Good luck!

My son applied to UNH RD in December; his portal was updated today to say he’s admitted. We haven’t received an envelope yet so I don’t have many details. He’s excited! This is his first acceptance (he’d applied ED and was deferred from another college) which is really nice to have.

BTMell-congratulations!

Thanks - we’re all pretty excited! I can take a deep breath and relax just a little bit.

It took me forever to post this, but better late than never, I suppose. I was accepted EA as a psychology major about a month ago with a 1360/2050 SAT (720 CR, 640 M, 690 W) and a 3.8 W GPA. My ECs weren’t stellar, good teacher recs and good essay. I hope that gives other people an idea of what their decision may be!

Congrats to those accepted and good luck to those of you still waiting!
