Here was the letter they sent to him a little over a month ago:

Thank you for completing your application for admission to SMU! We are excited you are considering SMU as your college choice. We see that you submitted your application before our Early Action extended deadline of November 9, but have indicated that you are applying for Regular Decision.

Now that you have submitted your application, we expect that you are eager to receive your admission decision. Because you completed your application early, we are moving your application forward to be considered with the non-binding Early Action group, so that you can receive an admission decision by the end of December.

If, for any reason, you would prefer us to hold your application for review with the Regular Decision group in January, please let us know by responding to this message.

We sincerely hope that SMU remains at the top of your college search list, and look forward to learning more about you through your application.

My best guess is we’ll see some more early decisions hit this week as the mail makes its way across the country, then the early actions will hit a bit later. Maybe late this week or early next week. They did say we’d hear by the end of the year, so they will for sure want to mail before heading out on Christmas break!

I just spoke with the Admissions Office. Very courteous but standard response that all ED/EA letters would go out starting this week and should be received by Dec 31st.

Congrats @peyton925! If you don’t mind share some stats, your city, and any scholarship offer you may have received so we can live vicariously through you!
