I live in New York and SMU is my top choice. However, I have not recieved a letter from the school. Should I be worried? Or should I assume that it is just taking awhile?

Does anyone know if I might have a shot at the presidents scholarship? I know I don’t have very many ECs but I’m hoping that my high scores and being captain of the swim team for both junior and senior year will help.

Anyone know if SMU has admitted student days this spring and when?

Hey guys,
I am from Nevada and got my decision two days ago in the mail. I am quite sad that I was deferred to regular admission. This early action class must have been very top notch this year! I am just quite surprised that I was deferred. Here are my stats:
Rank 3/309
Weighted GPA 4.925
Unweighted GPA 3.975
AP Scholar with Honor
ACT: 28 ----> I think this might have been why I was deferred
4 yr member and Captain of the Varsity Dance Team
Student Leadership Member for 3 years
School Blood Drive Coordinator
State leadership workshop presenter
National Honor Society
President of a prominent community service based club
Over 225+ of community service
Internship with a U.S. Senator
I am also a triplet, and my sister applied early and got deferred as well.

I think I have strong extra curriculars and I had very good letters of rec as well. I am also a legacy of the school, my father graduated here. Hopefully I can be accepted with regular admission.
I am taking 5 APs this year and I received all A’s for my first semster of my senior year. If I send in my new stats I might qualify for a scholarship. Congrats to everyone was has been accepted!

@hannahbanana5, sorry to hear you will have to wait a bit longer. The ACT as you probably know puts you somewhere around the 50th percentile of admitted students. That being said the rest of your stats seem stellar. Fantastic grades and unassailable ECs. It is a bit of a shame how much weight gets placed on standardized tests these days.

My son finds himself on the flip side of your situation. He has a strong ACT score of 33, but his grades are nowhere in the zip code of yours. He hasn’t received his decision yet, but we expect it will probably arrive on Monday as we were informed it was mailed on Wednesday.

It is a pet theory of mine that standardized tests tend to favor males, even more so than the studies indicate. My daughter doesn’t do as well on standardized tests, but she is CLEARLY the better student of my two kids. She makes much better grades with far less parental involvement, i.e. nagging!

Of course I’m only speaking as an outsider, but I can’t imagine SMU wouldn’t let you in with the regular admissions group. Looking at the body of your work, were I on a committee, you are the type of student I’d fight for.

Best of wishes to you. My hopes are that you get into your top choice school whether it be SMU or elsewhere.

Thank you so much! SMU is one of my top choices! I think I can get it, but cost is going to be tricky. Since I am a triplet, my parents really want me to go to a school for a good price! Hopefully SMU can give me a scholarship and a great financial aid package! Best of luck to your son!

Applied Early Action to SMU - Haven’t heard back yet, is that a bad thing?
