Early Action Class of 2023 - VT

It took close to 3 weeks for our packet to come last year, and we’re 4 hours away.

As @STEM2017 notes above, your student may have some soul searching to do if they are going to base their attendance decision on a welcome packet.

Maybe have your students start to follow VT DSA, athletics, engagement, etc. on Twitter. They will get a much better and real life sense of how welcoming the school and student body is from that than a welcome packet or merit aid check.

@ShenVal18 I certainly don’t think any of our kids are only basing their decision on an admissions packet. For me personally, I’m REALLY REALLY hoping he chooses Tech but right now he’s leaning towards somewhere else so I’m just wanting every little bit of welcome that can help. :))

@hokieinCO I get it. Tech is a little thin when it comes to welcome packet glitz. Not to worry, you’ll get pounds of fancy printed material at orientation (and I would imagine admitted students day as well). You should have him connect with student activities, housing and residence life, etc. on twitter and Instagram. Scrolling through those feeds gives a nice added dimension to things. The res halls all have their own Instagram feeds too.

@ShenVal18 that’s part of the problem - he’s busy with school work and waiting to hear from one last college so I haven’t been able to get him too interested in looking at stuff online. I can’t do it for him - he has to want it. So…I’ll wait patiently for Hokie Focus and hope that being on campus makes him want to go to VT. He hasn’t been on campus since 2015 - we just haven’t traveled to Virginia since then…

Still haven’t received anything here in CA but son doesn’t seem bothered by it. He stepped one foot on campus and the decision was made. He doesn’t even care about the one additional decision he’s waiting for. This means both my kids will be completely across the country from their parents. Either they’re both really well adjusted or they don’t like us very much. :))

I’m so jealous @sportingclaymom ! I’m ready to be done with this process and just know where he’s going to be. I agree though that it will be hard to have them across the country. The last school my son is waiting on is near the beach - I think our cold winter has him wishing for a warmer climate

@hokieinCO I don’t blame him. This last winter has been incredible. I haven’t seen this much rain in Orange County in at least 20 years, but rain is a far cry from the snow you’ve been hit with this season.

I’m in CA but my mailing address was set to my grandparent’s house in NOVA. Still also haven’t received a welcome packet, but we did get an invitation to RSVP at celebration events.

In response, son is definitely not basing any decision on a welcome pack. I LOVE VT but my son wasn’t feeling it when we toured last spring. He applied per my request as I was hoping he would give it another look. We are attending admitted students day even though VT is his #4-5th currently. I am hoping once he attends Hokie Focus, it will move up on his list. Ultimately, we are leaving the decision up to him but I think if VT was a little more connected, he might get a bit excited.

@hokieinCO I want this process to be done as well. VT is probably 3rd on his list and he loves it there, but we should hear from the rest of the schools by the end of this and next week. The not knowing is killing us all. BUT, it’s easier to know that VT is a possibility and still in the running. With any luck he will go to Focus, also hoping it doesn’t coincide with another day that he should probably attend, from a school he doesn’t already know so well. I have developed a new case of anxiety in the last couple months due to this…LOL

@VT—>NC this has, surprisingly, been the hardest part of senior year for me - the never ending not knowing. Plus, I’m so emotionally invested in VT because I so loved my time there. I think my son would too. He will hear from his last school next Thursday.

Is there any link to see how many freshmen were able to get into the major of their choice?

@VT—> I know what you mean about being emotional vested. I am not a VT grad but Blacksburg is my hometown (I am a VOL) and have tons of family still there. Would love to see my son there. Unfortunately I feel him leaning more towards N.C. state. He was accepted into 7 schools and the not knownimg where he will go is killing me.

We received our VT welcome packet in yesterday’s mail. Nice for it to finally arrive. Now we wait for the NC State decision that hopefully comes Friday night.

@ppxyz123 you can access 2018 stats at the link below. 2019 stats won’t be released until sometime in the fall or winter.

Apologies if it’s in wrong forum. Is there anyway to get for UMD too

All the way leading up to early admissions decisions coming out my son was 99% sure he was going to attend Furman. He got a nice scholarship and he had visited a few times and felt very comfortable on the campus. Now that he’s been accepted to VT the pendulum has swung the opposite way and he told me last Friday he is accepting VT. He received the packet from VT last Saturday and he received no merit. We are full pay which is stings a little OOS but Furman would have cost the same with the scholarship. I am an NC State alum (grad school) and he was accepted there too. I wish he would give NC State more of a chance but nope he is saying no to the Wolfpack. By the way not an engineering student - he is College of Neuroscience.

@Kona2012 Your son has three great choices. He really can’t go wrong with any of them. And believe me, there’s still time to change direction again…this is what kids do. Congratulations!
