Early Action - Class of 2023

This is a very interesting situation (to quote it’s a wonderful life ha ha). My DS got the letter. I’ll check again to see if changed and will post back. We’re not too worried though and figure he still will probably get in. Decided not to do honors college. Just waiting to see if he gets any merit as that will play into the decision…already signed up for accepted students day for him LOL so wonder if I’ll have to redo that again?

They are not derogatory. I wholeheartedly disagree. I guess I need to put my pink glasses on and be more forgiving. i just don’t like if they play with the emotions of prospective students that are serious about attending CoC, even if it is not intentional. First the social media post that has her checking the mailbox although no letters were sent to early action students. This morning then the acceptance. My daughter was extremely happy only to find out 8 hours later that it was all just a mistake. This time is stressful enough for my daughter already. I don’t really see how as a parent I can be happy with what they are doing…but it’s my daughters choice in the end.

@fromcola I guess we’ll just disagree. I find words like " pathetic" pretty derogatory. It’s an unfortunate situation for everyone . Most posters on here would say it’s a stressful time for their children. Mistakes happen, none of us are above them.

I looked on the portal last night and said my decision was ready and I opened the online letter and it said I was accepted. But then today when I checked the portal it said 100% submitted, your application is under review like it has been for weeks. I’m so confused

@madison145 there was a computer glitch. Announcements will be sent out by the 15th.

I did not see any posts about EA notifications being sent out. The website says Jan 15th and an admissions counselor confirmed that we would not hear earlier. Early Decision notifications were sent out in early December - that is what is on Instagram and Facebook and I believe some Honors College acceptances were possibly communicated which looks pretty much in line with every other school we applied to. In terms of a bad experience, if anyone is unhappy with this process, you clearly weren’t deferred to Regular Decision at U of SC because that was a disaster of a process because they promised EA decisions week of Dec 11th - and some kids got their acceptances days before that and on different days over the following week or so, and a large group waited days and days and days checking the portal and trying to track mail hoping for a decision. I guess the Admissions office got way too many calls so they finally put a note on the portal on Dec 20th - but that took a very long time and caused a lot of frustration, anxiety, and embarrassment in my opinion when friends asked every day, “did you hear yet?” - like salt in a wound. Our letter finally showed up less than a week ago and it was dated Dec 10th - and that was the normal delivery time similar to other applicants in the same boat, so they completely botched the process and that soured my whole experience and faith in them since this was clearly not their first year sending out acceptances - so anything else seems minor in comparison to what SC did.

I am just so mad I didn’t check the portal last night to see the open window! PS I don’t believe that they were not the correct decisions because their database portal has to be the system of record for decisions and why have the real decisions in one place and fake decisions somewhere else? Just my opinion.

@2023collbound there was a FB post regarding looking for the large envelope over the holidays posted right before Christmas. Last night, I broke my cardinal.rule and encouraged my son to check the portal. We always wait for the envelope. DS19 is taking it in stride. He actually has a better attitude about it than some adults do. Is a he disappointed, maybe a little, but he’s patient and is waiting for his letter. Computer glitches happen at many schools, not just CofC.at Tulane several years ago, acceptance emails were accidentally sent to all ED applicants. They caught the error quickly ( I want to say within an hr) I’m sure that it was very disappointing, but mistakes happen.

The college itself and the CofC admissions posted on Instagram and Twitter for EA applicants to be on the lookout over the holiday season and a picture of the envelope. My daughter is pretty laid back about the whole thing but I noticed that she has been checking the mailbox everyday. If they only sent a few, maybe they could have said that. I don’t know, does seem a little like a tease.

From an article I happened upon the other day, " Carnegie Mellon to Tulane have sent admissions notices in error. In 2009, the University of California-San Diego accidentally told 28,000 students they were admitted to the school, when in fact they were rejected." It happens.

thanks I did not see that - glad I didn’t lol! Just biting my nails anxiously waiting and stalking last year’s posts so really freaking out about whether my kid will get in - this was #1 for him, so will be crushed if he doesn’t get in. From stats on Niche, etc, I didn’t think we were going to need a miracle, but after reading last year’s stats on CC, I am really in a panic. Did anyone interview? My son met with someone at one of those Panera meet and greet one on ones - gosh I hope he did okay!

Is anyone else convince that Carolina mom 2 boys lady is actually CofC UNDERCOVER? She spends wayyyy to much time on here for CofC. Sorry if you’re not but you seem like it!

@collboy23 I am not CofC undercover. I have a Jr at the school and a HS senior waiting for notification. I actually spend less time on here than other parents. I didn’t realize that there was a time limit or post limit on threads.

Haha! She’s definitely NOT CofC Undercover. She’s a passionate fan of CofC with a current student and a second student hoping to join their sibling at CofC. If you review her posts over the years, you’ll realize she’s a wealth of knowledge regarding CofC. She wants what most of you are hoping for…an acceptance to CofC for her student.

We took a screen shot as well!

As a CofC real expert, is CofC your HS senior’s first choice? Was it your Jr’s? What other schools are/in the running - if you don’t mind me prying! We are from up north and don’t know a lot about the school but did fall in love the first time we went to Charleston and have been back a few times, but we don’t know anyone personally who applied there, etc so any insight would be extremely valuable from a parent perspective I apologize if I asked too much!

@2023collbound I’ll give you some generic info here and PM you the rest. We are instate . CofC was DS16’s first choice school when he stepped foot on campus . He is a William Aiken Fellow at the Honors College. He loves the school. He has had much support from the Honors College and is already doing research as a Jr. The size of the school is perfect for him. He has made excellent contacts with faculty and staff. It is also DS19’s first choice. I’ll send you a PM shortly.

I received an acceptance this morning around 9:00. my acceptance is still posted.

Thanks so much @carolinamom2boys

Congrats @luckypinky1 - hope it sticks! lol
