Hey! I was accepted into the math program Early Action and received a $60,000 scholarship. A few weeks later, I received a call from a math professor at Northeastern. Did anybody else have a similar experience?
@Boston98 - since you’re a junior, deciding between ED and EA is still a long ways off. I wouldn’t worry about that until the summer or fall. As for differences in scholarships/honors, it’s impossible to say at this point since this is the first years northeastern has had early decision.
@wesleygriffin - there have been a couple of occurrences posted here of people getting called by profs this year after being accepted. I don’t recall having heard of this in past years, though, so it seems to be a new thing.
@wesleygriffin I was admitted last year (current freshman) and was called by the dean of my college. I assume this is a newer initiative but I’m not sure if they call everyone or how they select who to call.
My son received email setting up a call with the dean of the program he was accepted into. It was a brief call, congratulatory and “do you have any questions?” and all that. Very nice touch from NEU.

How do deffered students update information? Through email?
Can someone who has been awarded a merit scholarship describe the requirements needed to keep a merit scholarship once it has been awarded?
@Juggerz everything goes into the portal. I was told this directly by the admissions office.
@justinn76 i dont see where you’re talking about? You mean where it says upload documents?
@juggerz Yeah. When I first applied EA that is the way I uploaded my resume and also my first quarter grades. Are you writing a deferral letter? I’m going to, and I wonder if that gets uploaded there too… :-/
@caligirl67 - There is some general information here: http://www.northeastern.edu/financialaid/grants-scholarships/undergraduate.html
It doesn’t specify the GPA requirement (I think there may be some variation between scholarships), but I think it’s 3.0 for most. That information is in the award letter when you’re offered a scholarship, I believe.
Hey all. I was deferred early in December – it was upsetting, but not unexpected. 1850 SAT, well over a 4.0 GPA, many extracurricular activities including sports, band, and academic leaderships. I applied EA to the Criminology program… I was wondering if anyone knew what my chances would be in the upcoming months?
Hey,
I also applied EA and got deferred in December.
30 ACT, 4.035 GPA (weighted) , 3.8 UW. Also am an immigrant from Eastern Europe, came to the US in 8th grade which I pretty much hoped would boost my chances of getting in, but nope.
Lots of community service, volunteer firefighter & EMT. Played a few sports. 5 APs , 8 honors classes, and had my own research projects at CCNY past summer.
Any chances I can get in after the deferral or are the acceptance rates for deferred students ridiculous?
Thanks.
@blackcoder1604 Hey,what about your SAT reasoning/ACT test scores?
@summersnowman23 I am an international applicant and Northeastern doesn’t require SAT/ACT for International applicants.
Does NEU email your decision or do you have to keep checking? Thanks
@blackcoder1604 oh I didn’t know that . I’m an international applicant as well and I submitted SAT. Got admitted through EA.
@iliveinmumbai northeastern sends you an email to check your NEU login when your decision is available.
Thanks @SummerSnowman23
I’m a Chem major and was accepted with a 10k scholarship. I got a call from the head of the Chem department and he said 40/650 kids get in to Chem. However, I missed what he said right before that. It seems like a very small number; does anyone know if that’s only for Early Action/ Early Decision? Thanks!
That number may be total enrolled out of the number of applicants, which makes numbers seem impressive but doesn’t really mean much.
