Sure! I had a 32 act, 33 superscore, 99.7w gpa 3rd in my class, varsity tennis/badminton captain plus I’ve won a lot of awards in both sports, class secretary, president of nhs and Spanish honor society, and a lot of other stuff, national writing contest award winner and I’ve done 200+ hrs of research at a top national lab and submitted to like 5 competitions… And I work lol I’m pretty sure my ecs helped me get in bc my act wasn’t great. I’m frm ny btw… Does anyone know how Echols scholars are chosen and when they find out? Sorry if someone already asked lol

@garetville: I don’t know for sure, trying to find out. I don’t think we’ve seen any email at all (yet).

i was accepted as well! so excited! no matter the outcome, congrats to ALL of you, you are phenomenal students :)

how does the midyear report work with accepted applicants? does anyone ever have an admission rescinded?

Yes, but it takes a lot. Reading Dean J (and other admins the last few years) I can tell you that grades slipping from all As to a few Bs etc isn’t going to do it. Getting arrested for something has also been known to cause a recission.

accepted OOS
Have they posted the amounts accepted/deferred/rejected yet?
also, did we have to apply separately for the scholarships your talking about (rodman and jefferson)? there was no mention of scholarships in my online letter

Echols, Rodman, College Science Scholars, and Art Scholars are done by the University without separate application.

A Jefferson Scholarship candidate is normally nominated by his or her school. The process is well underway so I believe that if you have not heard then there’s not much you can do about it.

ok thanks @10iswarrior

Congratulations to all!!

Just to clarify, the Echols, Rodman, College Science Scholars, and Art Scholars are UVa’s version of Honors Colleges, do not require a separate application, and do not include any scholarship awards (ie money). The Jefferson Scholars are nominated by their high schools in November (not all hs’s participate). There are also ‘at large’ candidates selected from the EA applicants where their hs’s did not participate, Nursing, Engineering, & Architecture. All candidates are interviewed locally, with some being selected to attend a selection weekend at UVa. The Jefferson Scholars Foundation is independent of the university and they conduct the interviews, selection, and award the scholarships. More information can be found here:

We continue to be very impressed with UVa and with admissions. The fact that they would release decisions over 2 weeks earlier than their published release date is very impressive. Obviously it means they have a very hard working admissions staff, but it also means they have compassion toward their applicants and don’t want them waiting unnecessarily.

Thank you UVa admissions!

Ditto, thank you UVA!! My daughter’s been so anxious that she hasn’t been able to sleep. She had her first good night of sleep in months last night!

Congratulations to those who were accepted. My son was accepted to SEAS. We are very excited!

Does anyone know if Rodman Scholars are told in their acceptance or if that comes later?

^^ That will somewhat come later. Last year I think it was via email. Not sure how much later given the early release of EA decisions. Watch CC and Dean J’s blog for info on Rodman, Echols, and College Science Scholars notifications.

Confused, the reviews for Echols, Rodman, CSS and the Arts Scholars are a separate process from admissions. If your son is invited to Rodman, he will receive his invitation by email. Since admissions decisions are done so early this year, they may not be done with Rodman/Echols review so he may have to wait a few days. If you are hoping to be an Arts Scholar, you will have to wait until the end of the RD process (I believe). See Dean J’s blog post from last year:

The other thing to remember is that you can apply to Rodman after your first semester if not offered at the time of admission.

Echols and Rodmen are a little later- blueIguana posted the link on page 2 of this thread.
Florsandfauna, I was going to say the same about finally sleeping!
We are in-state so her glee was tempered somewhat by the number of other friends who didn’t get in. For all the chat about OOS, IS isn’t a cakewalk either. A number of great kids didn’t get in. Hoping some of the deferred kids get in regular.

Thanks for the info. I’ll keep a hopeful eye on the blog.

Hey all! We do the review for Echols, Rodmand, and CSS in admission. I’ll check in with the folks working on those and post an update on my blog on Monday. Arts Scholars involves faculty (I think…that’s a newer process in which I haven’t been involved).

If you apply to join those programs after you get here, then the programs themselves will review you.

Our office sends some at-large names to the Jefferson Scholars Foundation. At-large candidates skip the local interview round. If memory serves, that happens in late February.

Again, I’ll have an update on all of this, along with some early, unofficial statistics, on the blog on Monday morning.

Hope that helps!

Thanks so much Dean J. Will the stats include the number/% of EA applicants accepted?

Daughter is in . Hooray!!!
