Early Action Decisions Posted!

Accepted as well! So excited!

i only had a 3.56 out of 4.50 GPA and only a 1590 SAT (540 math, 530 cr, and 520 writing) but i guess what got me in was all my extracurriculars and rigorous courses (all honors.) out of state NJ resident… cant wait to leave the state forever! good luck to everyone getting in!

My daughter was accepted EA! I was pretty suprised because her stats were not great. She is OOS with a 3.5w GPA and a 1500/2400 SAT.

My D was admitted. However, when we click on the link to see the admission letter, nothing happens. And when we click on Admitted, nothing happens.

Was anyone able to see their letter? Also, I realize that students don’t get scholarship info until later but what about information regarding being admitted to the Honors program?
Anyone see that in their letter?

No, honors and scholarship info isn’t available yet.

My S was also admitted and also unable to access his letter initially–same problems. We have macs and that’s what we tried first. Then tonight we tried my husband’s PC and were able to see the letter after disabling the pop-up blocker. Hope this helps, vandygrad87.

Thanks, joieVA. We’ll give that a try. We have to find a PC to use first though- we are an all-MAC family! :-)

I wonder what that means for students using a MAC at JMU. Do they have trouble accessing their MyMadison portal on a regular basis?

Thanks Walker for the info re: honors and scholarships. When does it come out? Congratulations again on your D’s acceptances and hope that the audition goes well!

Congratz to all of you who got in! Can those of you who got in post their stats so people who are doing RD compare their stats. Like GPA, SAT, type of classes(regular/honors/AP). Thanks!

vandygrad87, for what it’s worth, we are an all-Mac family and had no trouble whatsoever accessing the acceptance letter.

Thankfully my husband often brings his PC laptop home from work! I wondered about the potential PC-Mac issue because I thought back to application time and remembered that my S ran into problems with the JMU app and the Common App. He couldn’t always see previews or proof. We dashed to the library one time so that he could use a PC there to just make sure that something looked ok. Unbelievable. That’s a good question about the MyMadison portal–we will definitely be asking about that.

Denied
Stats: Act -23
Gpa 3.4
Out of state

We also had to take the pop-up blocker off to review the letter. My question is, to those who were admitted, does it say anywhere in your letter which major you were accepted to? My DS applied for Engineering/Stem, but it doesn’t say that anywhere in his letter, simply that he has been accepted. I ask because in all his other acceptances it names the major or in 2 cases, he was admitted to a university, but not to engineering.

Thanks to all.

Congratulations to everyone who was accepted! My D was also accepted. She is OOS and has a 3.6 GPA (weighted) with 1710 SAT (600 Math, 570 Reading, 540 Writing). She has 4 AP and 10 Honors classes and is in a program through her high school this year in which she is taking 2 college classes. She has many EC’s and captain of her swim team. Good luck to all those applying for RD.

Congratulations to all that received an acceptance notification. My S has been deferred which surprised me given his 3.6GPA and a 1260/1890 SAT. AP science courses and well as several honor ones. He played football and soccer till the end of his sophomore year, when he started working as a life guard at Princeton University (we are from Jersey). When we applied to schools, I thought JMU was a good match while Villanova a reach. He got into Villanova and deferred at JMU. I guess we now wait

D accepted. OOS, with 3.6 GPA and 1850 SAT.

Most majors are open at JMU. So, the acceptance from JMU is an academic one to the university in general.

Students admitted to JMU academically may attend as undecided, in an unrestricted major, or in a major that has progression standards to apply to be fully admitted to the program after completing certain pre-reqs at JMU or a CC.

For major programs that are restricted there is a program admissions process that is separate from JMU academic admissions. This does not mean that a student needs to be admitted to the program to come to JMU, but that there are specific admissions/ progression standards that need to be met in order to be in that specific program. For some of these programs (music, theatre, dance, art, design and art history, etc…) there is a separate audition or portfolio review which can (and often should) be completed before a student chooses to attend JMU… Regardless of the outcome of this process an academically admitted student may attend JMU in an unrestricted major or a major that has progression/ admissions standards for currently enrolled students.

For Engineering – http://www.jmu.edu/engineering/declaring.html

For Example. I teach in Theatre and Musical Theatre Students have to audition for us to be admitted to the program, BUT if they are not admitted to the program, but are admitted academically to JMU they may attend JMU in another major.

I hope that this helps and makes sense.
