what is your opinion...s applied ea and was deferred...just checked the school admission web site tonight...still saying ready to be reviewed.. however..I am thinking this not looking good...do most students w/o a decision at this late date end up being the ones who end up getting a denied notice on the last day....or is there still a reasonable chance for an acceptance.....

School said they will be going through appl files til end of March… (2 students at same high school as s- who were also ea- deferred have received acceptance notices) …hoping I am wrong but beginning to think the ea deferred students who have not yet received a decision will mostly likely get denials… any one know if at this stage schools send out waves of acceptances and waves of denials…or from others experiences is it just on a file by file decision…would be great if an admissions person would explain the process at this stage…
thanks to all!

BigBlueMom…was it UNH that deferred him? If so, my nephew was also deferred EA and he has still not heard from them. Not sure what that means though. Hoping he gets good news soon!

Yes, UNH…it’s has been his first choice school since the very beginning…
They were questioning his fresh/soph grades. so EA -deferred…help me out here…s is a very private guy…they reason for lower grades and non AP classes is this; born with tethered spinal cord and host of other situations…had numerous surgeries, daily meds…uses a crutch for mobility…(which is why UNH campus is so great-they have wonderful bus system- almost no other school has this and his choice of major- communication disorders) .He never led onto to any of this to UNH -though did allude to surgeries in essay…thus his appl looks a weak in terms of no employment history and no high school sports of any kind…(played baseball, loved to ski …etc until last surgery during 7th grade when surgeons restricted ALL sports to prevent any further damage)…ok sorry enough with details…question is…should I encourage him at this last minute to contact regional adm counc. and chat w/her …once more before they make final decisions…I know he does not ever want to be a “charity case”- his pride would never allow that…do I send a letter? have high school guidance coun. fax them a letter…so please give your suggestions on this…I just don’t have a clue …pls help…

I think if you were going to go the route of explaining the lack of EC’s, it should have been done much earlier. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. It might work if he gets waitlisted though.

If he is waitlisted and you decide to send the explanation - that’s just what it is, an explanation. It’s not an excuse or a request for charity. It’s just explaining his situation, which is different than most other kids’ situations, and puts his application in a different light. His accomplishments may not look impressive for the average kid, but the average kid doesn’t have to overcome his challenges. In addition, colleges want diversity - racial, socio-economic, ethnic, and “ability.” Having a floormate who has physical challenges could be a great learning experience for the other kids on his floor.

Again, sorry it’s late to be telling you this. But for parents of sophs and juniors reading this thread… a college can’t make an accurate determination of your abilities and the effort you’ve put into your high school career unless they have a complete picture of you as a person. If that includes disabilities, then you should probably include them, IMHO.

bigbluemom, I’m pulling for your son! I hope you do get good news soon!

Wow bigbluemom…it sounds as if your S has been through a lot. I think I would start with your S’s guidance dept and see what they recommend. I truly hope that he gets an big envelope in the mail with a “Welcome to UNH” letter inside. Keep us posted!

I don’t know anything about college applications. It just occurred to me reading your post that you have a valid point why your s should go to this school; bus system and all that. If you didn’t bring it up in the application? Not a charity case but a perfect match case?

thanks for posts…does he send adm coun . email …phone call on Monday…regarding bus system??? do I contact anyone or will that be really looked down upon???
help…we are down to the final days for that coveted acceptance!!!
