OK so university of Miami have been my number one choice since my freshman year. I was so sure i had a chance and boom i got denied! My stats are 1200 sats(cr and math) and 3.61 gpa. I called and they said my gpa wasn't competitive enough. My freshman year i had a 2.8 which killed culm gpa. My gpa has only increased since then. I had got a 3.9 last yea and this year i slacked a little and got a 3.5 my 1st quarter and 3.8 my second. Could i appeal this decsion? i know i have what it takes to be at the university of Miami.

It’s their loss they didn’t admit you.

thanks raffles there has to be a way for me to get in tho…i should have applied ED

i think you should appeal

good luck!

i called and supposedly they said i can not. How can this be possible? Did that person not know what they are talking about? Should i appeal anyways?

Yes, it is not only possible, it is probable. Very few schools have any sort of appeal process for a denial. That is especially true for out of state students applying to state schools.

It’s disappointing, certainly. Cry, get depressed, wallow for a few days. Then move on.

i would have to agree with chedva. i mean if there is nothing you can do to change it there is no use in wallowing over it. fall in love with another one of the schools you applied to

wat!!! a 3.6 gpa is not competitive? that is ridiculous. if anything i would say your sat score isnt competitive enough, but its still a decent score. ur gpa is really good. that’s stupid calll complain send them emails bother them until someone responds with a reasonable answer…BUT its true that if you really did like the school that much you should have applied ed. u would have gotten in that way.

my friend was accepted to um with lower everything than you, and only moderately appealing ECs… you could TRY to appeal, although it may be best, as many have said, to move on.

If you look at the Stats for UM
[Fast Facts | University of Miami](http://www6.miami.edu/UMH/CDA/UMH_Main/0,1770,29532-1;36206-2;41088-3,00.html)
you are low both for SAT and GPA. The average GPA is 4.2 weighted and the 25percentile for SAT is 1240. I doubt an appeal would help. You need to move on.

where else did you apply?

When I attended an open house last year, they said they considered a competitive SAT score anything above a 1300. Your stats are below all the averages and I’m not surprised you got rejected. I’d say a deferral was your best possible outcome.

ive applied to uf and i got into fsu… ive been making awesome progress each year. like i said my freshman year screwed me. i got a tutor who helped a friend of mine improve his sat for a 1340 to a 1510. So i think i can improve to a 1300. I have good EC’s i was VP and treasurer of SGA. I am a Hispanic minority. I am a model UN member. and i take 4 AP courses this year. Moving on would feel like giving up, im not going down with out a fight.

stats are pretty low. maybe u sent ur bar too high?

the counselor from Um said my sat score was very respectable. BTW i attend a private school which is much harder to get a high gpa in. I kno this because i went to public school for practically my entire life and did absolutely nothing and got a 3.0 in public school.

I was deferred from UMiami with a 1210 and a 3.39 GPA when I applied…its now a 3.51 after first semester. I’m in state and go to a private school so I’m sure that helps somewhat but seriously everything happens for a reason…you may think Miami is your dream school but you could of been miserable there for whatever reason, just take what comes and go with it…theres a better school out there for you.
