Parent of Wooster EA applicant here. We were very impressed with Wooster, and are looking forward to hearing by the end of this month (now that December is finally here!) Good luck to all the Wooster applicants!
Same here. Standing by…
Me too! Assuming favorable outcome, planning an overnight visit in February. What other schools are your kids considering?
Mine is applying EA to Wooster, Kalamazoo, Earlham, Knox and Dickinson. If those go well, he will be done, no regular decision apps to complete. We need merit aid as we are not eligible for financial aid but cannot write a $65,000 check, so his list was crafted with merit aid in mind. That meant NESCACs were off the list, though he liked Bates.
Similar boat here. EA to Wooster, Beloit, DePauw, Colorado College. RA to Grinnell and Macalester. Not expecting financial aid, but merit would be very nice!!! Newbie here, what is a NESCAC?
DD heard today via email. good luck to everyone waiting!
My student checked his admissions portal – it said there was a status update, he clicked the link – Acceptance (with Dean’s Scholarship). Great way to start the weekend!
Wahoo. DD received a positive response today along with generous Dean’s Scholarship!! I saw the other postings and told DD to check email. Very happy. Definitely a top contender for her. We will plan to visit in February for an overnight! Visited over the summer and very impressed, but want to visit during school year to attend a class or two.
My D applied EA hasn’t heard anything yet, had her check. She has very good ACT score and had a great interview in the summer so hopeful she will get in with merit. Getting nervous. How much was Dean’s scholarship offered if ok to ask? Congrats to those that were admitted!
Intrigued by these early notifications since the official date was (I thought) 12/31. But yay for the relief of knowing early!
Yes, we didn’t expect anything, but it was Friday so we checked the portals . . . . a wonderful surprise. Now we’re going to to start wondering about some of the other EA schools!
Congrats! I’m also a CoW parent (of a freshman, who is very happy to have chosen Wooster).
@janjmom, would love to hear more about your freshman’s experience so far, either here on in another thread.
@ssb2mom According to the website, Dean’s scholarship is up to 25K, but I don’t know how much variation there is, though. http://wooster.edu/admissions/scholarships/
Our freshman is finding that college coursework is appropriately challenging but manageable (even while being actively involved in a club sport taking up 6-12 hours of time per week). The professors are as accessible as promised. The first year seminar was balanced between academics and activities designed to help the students learn about the college and the community. Socially, freshman year has been a huge success - lots of new friends (and because of the club sport the friends are not all freshman) - perhaps too much socializing in my opinion, lol, and not enough focus on academics, but that’s a reflection on our child, not the college! As parents we have been nothing but impressed at every turn by the CoW approach to students and families. (The pre-orientation last June was exceptionally well designed and effective.). There will be a new president starting July 1. Feel free to ask specific questions and I will try to answer them, or pm me if you prefer.
Got an email on Friday about a change in my application status. Checked and got in with a Deans Scholarship (22.5K a year). I was expecting December 31st. Very happen about Wooster
Son got a nice letter with hand written note commenting on his essay. very personal touch. $22,500/year merit. Hasn’t visited yet but did visit Denison and really liked it. I guess he will need to take a trip to COW and see that too now! Any feedback from parents who have been on both campuses? What were your experiences and those of your kids?
We only visited CoW but had one of our best visit experiences there. (More later from a real computer.)
I’ve lost count at this point, but we visited over 20 schools in the course of figuring out where to target the kid’s interest, and Wooster was by FAR the best visit experience. Their admissions office is warm and welcoming and the visit was very personalized, with no generic info session, but rather a one-on-one tour followed by an interview with a student who shared my kid’s interests. The campus is attractive (not quite the jewel that nearby Kenyon was, but that ended up being a plus for my kid) with lots of recent renovations. Everything seemed thoughtfully arranged and surprisingly homelike for an institutional setting. I just took the virtual tour on the website, and I think it captures the look and feel pretty well. I left feeling that I would feel very happy having my kid there.
My student applied EA as well and found out via the portal this past weekend as well. There was also an offer of the Dean’s Scholarship at the max amount. This was followed by a packet in the mail this week. Congrats to those accepted and good luck to those waiting!
