as I said above, I called to ask when scholarship info would be sent, and I was told that the scholarship committee didn't begin meeting until this week - but that we didn't have to send in our acceptance/defer/decline until we hear about scholarship info - I thought this seemed odd though when our packets said to reply within 2 weeks???

yeah, gscanadian, i remember you saying that... i was just wondering if anyone had heard any news. i am definitely going to wait to see how much i will get to make my final decision-- unfortunately, money is a factor in being able to attend Columbia.

yeah, same here - being an international student, I can't get any federal aid from the US or from Canada - Canada isn't too keen on students leaving for the States...

Have any of you guys apply for University Apartment Housing even if you have not submitted the Acceptance Reply Form? I'm debating whether or not I should apply before I find out about the scholarship stuff because I don't want to end up without housing if I do end up going to Columbia GS.

I haven't applied yet, but I am thinking about doing it early also. I will absolutely have to have housing (I'm from North Carolina)! What do you think you'll do?

I'm from California so I have to live in housing as well. I will probably do it later when I have time to read through all that stuff. I wonder why it's taking so long for the financial aid.

Would anyone who has been accepted be interested in, or willing to, share your personal essay with me? I have good ideas for mine, but am unsure about general structure. I would like to read some, if anyone is willing to share please message me privately.

Thanks

hey all,
i just got home and checked my mail and i got a transfer credit evaluation-- only 33 of my hours (out of 55) will transfer. how's it been for anyone else? i was hoping for a bit more. i'll have 64 completed by the time i transfer; i'd be happy if i could get a larger majority of these credited!

Oh wow! A transfer credit eval??? I didn't know we would get those. What kind of classes did you take city middle? I am hoping that most of my classes will transfer over. If I were to transfer to a University of California school, all my 70 credits will transfer. I don't know if I'm willing to give up all that time (and money)....

They gave me credit for 49, out of 60. I have 14 more on the way that I'll need evaluated. I have been trying to find information out about an appeals process or testing out option.

Anyone know anything?

The max you can transfer in is 60

What I really want is to transfer the max of 60 credits. What kind of classes did they not transfer over? I don't want to end up at freshman/soph standing when I transfer

I can't figure that out, It dosn't give me a list of the specific course I took and what it transfers as. They didn't count my computer science course i know and want to appeal that. They didn't count one of my english or one of my math.

I called and got my scholarship amount...pretty insulting. I'm thinking this must be a money grab after all, because suddenly my "impressive" application doesn't count for much. Just thought I should warn you guys. Good luck!

How much did they offer, if you don't mind saying?

Who did you call, just the admissions office? Do you think most of ours are ready?

Is it because you're an international student?

let's just say that considering my financial situation, if I was in columbia college I'd be about $35000-$40000 up on the deal, and considering i'm still college age it seems really annoying that taking a year off can make that much of a difference - does anyone know if you can apply to transfer to the college instead of gs even if you fit into the "took one year off" aspect of gs? because I was under the impression you couldn't, or else I would have done that instead

I called the scholarship office, here's the info:

I was accepted April 7, so I guess people accepted then would also be ready.

And, no they don't take international status into consideration when deciding on scholarships, at least they say they don't, - but it is why I don't have any other options. Who knows, maybe I'll find another way in a couple years. good luck to everyone!

i just called and was offered $6,000...

I just called too and I was just told that I wouldn't be able to get ANY aid infomration unless I sent in my Acceptance Reply Form.

What did you guys say???

they asked me if i had sent in a FAFSA planned enrollment form, which i did. they haven't been able to locate it, but usps says it was delivered may 1st. outside of that, they didn't ask for anything else but my last name.
