Early Action make a difference?

Hey everyone,

With Junior year winding down, as well as my college visits, I have come to the conclusion that UNC is my number 1 school. Now the question is, does applying Early Action have an impact at all for an OOS applicant like myself ( i really just want to know if i have a better shot getting in early or if there is absolutely no difference from regular decision.)

Thanks

A higher percentage of students are accepted EA, but that may just be because the people who apply early are stronger applicants.

If you are ready to apply early, and know you want to apply to UNC, then applying early can’t hurt since it isn’t binding. An exception to this might be if you are hoping to bring up your GPA fall semester and/or are planning to retake standardized tests again - in such cases, waiting for regular round makes a lot of sense.

Ok thanks, yeah that makes a lot of sense. I guess it Depends on my SAT IIs this weekend to see if i will apply early or regular next year

I’m in state, but it seemed to make a difference at my high school. Pretty much everyone who applied EA got in, while most people who applied RD got denied. Granted, many of the EA people probably would have got in RD too, but there were a few that probably would not have.

Admissions says EA doesn’t make a difference. The main reason why EA has a higher admission rate is because that is when the vast majority of NC applicants apply. There are some strong in-staters who apply RD, but for the most part the second deadline is dominated by OSS and weaker NC applicants, and thus has a lower admit rate.

Your SAT IIs have nothing to do with your acceptance.

If UNC is your top choice there is no reason why you should not have your application prepared by the time that deadline rolls around. Especially since it’s nonbinding and you can apply to some ED schools with it.

It helps by the mere fact that there are more spots available if you apply EA. It doesn’t help much but it does help.

I’m with cloying. If UNC is your #1 choice, you need to be applying early decision, especially since it’s non-binding. I have no clue why people think subject tests matter.

Though subject test are unimportant to admissions at Carolina, this is not the case at many other colleges of the same caliber. Therefore, I understand why many students are still pursuing the SAT II’s.

I guess that’s true. It’s like the ACT/SAT thing… I don’t know anyone around here who took the ACT but for my cousins in Colorado, that’s the only test they’ll take. It’s a regional thing.
