@puzzled123 Wait you can apply BOTH ED and SCEA?
^ No. Not allowed.
Oh ok thanks.
No, but you can do both ED and non-restrictive EA, which MIT/Chicago/Caltech provide.
@puzzled123 Oh ok, I see. I never knew that before. Thanks!
Wait then does EA at MIT or UChicago or CalTech actually give any realistic advantage as you can just apply to another school ED?
From my experience, definitely at UChicago, and I would say it gives you a marginal advantage at MIT/Caltech for reasons I outlined above. Plus from an application standpoint, it helps to get some apps done early, so you aren’t writing supplements for 10 different schools in December.
@puzzled123 Do you have any idea on the acceptance rate of EA for U Chicago? I tried to find it but couldn’t find anything.
10 point something this year. And RD was 4 point something.
I agree with @puzzled123 the only thing I would say is that there are probably more places for ED than the ones mentioned, for example Vandy took 48% of its class ED this year. Dartmouth has started taking a lot as well. However you have to want to go there. I would caution about Columbia, look at your school’s track record. There are certain schools Columbia takes from ED or otherwise and certain ones it does not. The same is true for the SCEA schools so see which one others from your school have previously been accepted at either SCEA or RD before picking one. MIT was my dream school (did not happen) and it would have killed me to get in ED someplace and MIT and not be able to attend MIT, however that ended up not being close to my problem
If I had it to do over again I would do what puzzled said
