Hi, I am planning on applying early to MIT. I stumbled upon an article about EA policies and realized that Yale actually allows applicants to apply to another NREA school even if they are applying to Yale SCEA.
Here’s Yale’s policy: http://admissions.yale.edu/single-choice-early-action
Am I reading/interpreting this right? I plan on applying early to MIT, UChicago, Caltech, and Yale early (and some public colleges). Would I be breaking any rules by doing so? Just wanted to make sure!
I really want to apply early to these colleges in order to knock out the app (and I’m done with all standardized testing). Is there an obvious disadvantage to applying EA to any of these schools?
Thanks in advance for your helpful answers!
No, you may not apply to both MIT and Yale early. Per Yale’s policy:
If you are a Single-Choice Early Action applicant to Yale, you may apply to another institution’s early admission program as follows:
You may apply to any college’s non-binding rolling admission program.
You may apply to any public institution at any time provided that admission is non-binding.
You may apply to another college’s Early Decision II program, but only if the notification of admission occurs after January 1. If you are admitted through another college’s Early Decision II binding program, you must withdraw your application from Yale.
You may apply to any institution outside of the United States at any time.
MIT does not fall under any of those categories, nor do UChicago or Caltech as none of these schools offer rolling admission, they’re not public, they’re not EDII and they’re not outside of the US. I’m curious as to how you were reading this as allowed?
You omitted one point:
“You may apply to another college’s Early Action II program.”
I realize MIT, UChicago, and Caltech only has one round of EA. Anyways, I did read that wrong. Makes sense!
No, it’s Early Decision II that Yale allows you to apply to under SCEA so long as the notification occurs after Jan 1, not Early Action II (not sure such a thing exists anywhere?)
The link in my original post didn’t link correctly: http://admissions.yale.edu/single-choice-early-action
The updated policy includes both Early Action II and Early Decision II (listed at the bottom of the page).
I don’t think Early Action II is popular anymore (among top-tier colleges).
