Hey guys, I need help. Seriously. There's only a few test dates left for the SATs and I haven't done any of them. My current plan is to do Lit. and BIO this spring over the 2 test dates (I'm scared I won't be ready for math 2), and take the SAT once on Oct. 8th and Math Level 2 once on the Nov. date. THE PROBLEM: Early action deadline would mean that the uni would get the results too late! ANOTHER PROBLEM: Is doing SAT I only once risky?

Should I follow my plan and just apply regular decision? Would that hurt my chances? I'm an international who's looking for financial aid (can I even apply EA in the first place?). I desperately need help.

Thanks a ton!

I think it would be best to take the SAT I first and see how you score. Then double up on the SAT IIs (Math II and Bio) at the next test date. SAT I is way more important, and you'll have time to retake it if you receive a bad score. If all the scores seem satisfactory, then go for EA. It also depends on which college/university you're planning on doing EA for.

You may want to consider combining the Lit and Bio into one sitting so you can take the SAT I this spring. That will give you an opportunity to evaluate your results over the summer, and then decide on a fall test schedule.

Another option: would taking the ACT work for you?

Good luck!

Like tactics, I think the ACT would be a good option. For the SAT, I suggest this:
May 2006: SAT I
June 2006: 2 SAT II's
Summer 2006: SAT prep
October 2006: Retake of SAT I

It's good to have testing done fairly early because it's a good idea to apply to at least one EA or rolling school. Furthermore, it's easier to apply for scholarships with SAT scores in hand.

Thanx for the feedback so far! Some more info: I just realized I took SAT I last fall and got W: 710, CR: 690, and M: 550. I would be applying EA to Stanford (probably) and so I need to get those scores up. Does this change the suggested schedules in any way? Also, I don't feel comfortable with doing Math Level 2 without serious tutoring/revision, and I may not be able to handle doing it this spring (or am I exaggerating its difficulty? I need at least 700 on it). But apparently universities really want the Math Level 2... would Lit. and BIO suffice?

Thanx again.

REALLY have to get that math score up. I also don't recommend skipping/leaving Math IIC until the end. That's an important SAT Subject Test, and colleges really value this test.

I think the SAT II's are more imp. Just do the SAT 1 and be ready for the subject tests. And u cant skip Math I/II especially the latter as itis a necessary in most places...

This is definitely a tight situation. I should apply EA to Stanford, but I should also take my SAT II in Math 2 in the spring so that I can take the SAT I in the fall? Yikes, but I was hoping to really improve math over the summer. I'm not sure how well I could do in the spring Math 2 without serious time to study (which I don't have right now, unfortunately).

One thing to note: I would be applying for financial aid...

May I apply Single-Choice Early Action to Stanford if I wish to be considered for financial aid?
Yes, international students may apply under Single-Choice Early Action, regardless of their financial status.

Thanks, warbler! Last question: If I do the SAT I on October 8th, will the scores be ready for the Nov. 1 EA deadline?

you also might consider the April test date, standby. Ten days to practice SAT math problems....R U taking any AP courses this year? If so, take those subject tests this spring. If you are in precalc, take Math 2....practice with your TI.

Yes, October is fine.

Please take note of test dates, registration deadlines, and our application deadlines. You should plan on registering at least one month before the desired testing date, and should expect the test results to take at least four weeks to reach Stanford. Rush reports are not necessary if you arrange for the testing agency to send us your scores by our application deadline.
