If I'm applying to a school that has an Early Action deadline of October 15, do they see my first semester (or first quarter, even) senior year grades at all? I know they will if I get accepted. But what I'm saying is do my first semester (or quarter) grades have any effect on my acceptance/rejection? Will they see those grades before making a decision?

Can anyone please help me?

They might look at your most recent set of grades (depends on the school) but most of them take into consideration your first semester grades and later your final transcript (after you were accepted). In other words, don’t get senioritis

^I second that. Check if you are required to send in Mid-school year or End of school year reports and even then TAKE NOTHING FOR GRANTED. Don’t be afraid to have fun but don’t slack off either.

No, they will only see your jr year grades before making a decision. This is one of the drawbacks of EA/ED for students who want to show improvement as a sr.

I’m a bit confused because 2 of you said one thing and 1 said another thing.
@Columbia 94 and ReesesPieces - but aren’t EA/ED decisions mailed out in early/mid December? The first semester at my school ends at the end of January…
Shoot. I’m screwed haha because they won’t see the good classes (i.e. AP Latin) I’m taking senior year! :(

On this question, the time frames involved should leave no doubt about the answer to your question. If you do a Search on EA, you will find other threads that discuss the pros and cons of early admissions.

To add on to Entomom’s great response, IF a college needs to offer EA responses in December, how would that school consider senior year grades (considering they are not available until January)?

Dunno about other schools, but when my D1 applied ED to Tufts they asked to see midyear reports. In our district fall semester ended in January, so her school submitted a copy of her 10 week report card for her senior year fall semester.

And yes, those grades can be important. The Tufts admissions folks did a live blog of ED committee meetings, and it was clear to see that they cared deeply about those grades. There were a few examples of applicants who were on the verge of being admitted, until someone noticed that the student’s senior grades to date were low. It was frustrating for the adcoms–too late for that year’s ED applicants, but a useful message for the RD and ED2 applicants about not slacking off.

@entomom, thank you. That site helped a lot and I will look for the same on the sites of the schools I am interested in.
@Erin’s Dad, that’s exactly what my question was…
Thank you for the help, everyone. I want to apply EA because of the higher acceptance rate but now I’m worried because they probably won’t see any of my senior year grades.
