*ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: [Congrats to everyone who got in EA! Best of luck to everyone RD!]

Just found out tonight niece's hs teammate was deferred from G'town. This is an amazing girl, great athlete soccer and basketball player, 4 year varsity starter in both. Also #2 rank of 400+, 1530 M and V, many AP's I don't know any other stats or specifics; from a competitive NJ hs that sends a number to ivies each year but not many to Georgetown.

The school is stunned...wondering what it takes to get in here. She's taking it hard...she fell in love with Georgetown and wanted to play soccer there. Gtown coach said if she gets in there will be a spot on the team for her...maybe he didn't want her bad enough but even without soccer she seemed to have everything. Maybe it was essays or recs, who knows.

Congrats to all those accepted.

Holy wow tofu_luck! We have similar user names AND we both applied to Faculty of Lang/Ling!!!! Separated at birth? ;)

*Other Factors: [God hates me]

*ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: [i know my SATs are shameful. im a bad test taker. i dont really think God hates me. my interviewer really got my hopes up. he assured me id get in "without a problem". i knew he was out of touch and still expected to get deferred but it still made me a little too optimistic about the whole process. i didnt come up with a cure for world hunger i was kidding]

question.... how do some of yall have GPA's of like 5.3? i dont think its even possible for me to have a GPA like that. is it a 5 pt scale instead of a 4 pt scale or something?

Getting an A in an advanced placement class boosts your GPA (I think in nearly every U.S. high school at least).

*Other Factors: [none really, I think the EPGY thing put me over the top since SAT's were good, ACT's were nice, grades were okay, EC's were pretty bad]

*ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: [I love college]

haha, heybucs, i took math at a high school as an eighth grader too and did a spin off that for my essay as well, it was just really ironic when i read your post because i had just been printing that essay

To the GPA question...
getting A's in AP classes gets you an extra point per class, but as far as I know, unless you are using the 100 pt. scale, your GPA can not be over 5, because you don't get more than 5 pts./class, so the total divided by the # of classes will never be over 5.

At my school, we have a 6 point weighted scale.
An A+ in a regular course is a B+ in a College Prep course and a C+ in either an honors or AP course..
and its impossible to have a perfect weighted score because everyone takes 4 years of gym, a regular course
