about 73% to 78% of students get their first choice school. Just thought people would want to know that...and I think on december 15, I am going to be very nausious (sp?).

nauseous*

i'm starting to think that i'd prefer it if georgetown rejected early too...instead of stringing someone along for another four months despite the fact that they have no actual chance.

Think about it like this. It's out of our hands now there's nothing we can about it. And plus--you'll get in somewhere, and I'm sure most of you will be happy, even if you don't end up at Georgetown. Yes, it's my dream school too. And for me, it's not just a dream school...but the only place that can help me reach my ultimate dream. But I know, that though I will be devastated if I get deferred, (the acceptence rate from those deferred then accepted regular is 15%) I also know, that I will find somewhere else where I will be happy with as well.

Improvements:

Why would Georgetown be the "only place that can help [you] reach [your] dream"? That's ridiculous. No school is singularly tailored for any one profession (except maybe Colorado School of Mines). Your education is what you make out of it.

Because, I plan on going into politics. In order to get the internships I need, I need to be in Washington, D.C. and I also need the help of a school like Georgetown to help me get there. I am from a working class family, and I need a boost, I have worked my way up from community college, and I need to shoot for the stars now. And I love everything about Georgetown, besides the fact it will help with my dream.

Improvements: You can get D.C. internships no matter where you go to school during the academic year. Don't hole yourself in. Academic year intersnhips are usually b.s./busy work anyway. The ones that actually instill any real, valuable experience in you are the ones you do full-time during the summer; and you don't have to go to college in D.C. to be there in the summer. I say this confidently as the best friend of Gtown transfer here to Tufts, who's told me the same thing (in fact, he writes on CC sometimes, you can PM him with questions, his name on here is kofi000).

AND IN OTHER NEWS:

EA applications to Georgetown went up 11% --- not great news for you guys, but thought you might be interested (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=272141&highlight=tufts).

Yes, I see your point lolabelle. There's a little more to it, then I explained. But yeah. And that sucks about the 11%, but what can you do. Just hope I get in.

Is that really so bad? I would think the number of people they accept should be proportional increase to keep the acceptance rate at around 21%.

No, they probably accept the same amount of people. So the percentage accepted will drop if the pool increased.

"Georgetown generally uses the overall acceptance rate from the year before as the acceptance rate at Early Action. For example, the overall acceptance rate for 2001-2002 was 21%, so 21% of students who applied under the Early Action program in 2002-2003 were admitted EA. The overall acceptance rate for 2004-2005 was 21%."

I'm sure you're right in that it'll be a little bit tougher, but a guy can hope, can't he?

Certainly. Good luck to you all!

this is supposedly the second largest pool of early action in georgetown history EVER.

^^^ wow. i dont know what to say....except that it's just my luck haha

i don't think it's right for them not to adjust the percentage of acceptance even just a little when they know that the pool increased so significantly. yuckk.

hey Improvements, dont despair! 15% acceptance rate of deferred students- sure it sucks but think about it, the regular acceptance rate is only about 21.5%... not much of a difference in your chances. also you will put into a less competitive applicant pool in RD. there would still be hope after deferral homes.

I just did my interview today! I'm so nervous! When exactly do we find out?

um...ur applying EA and you just had ur interview? or RD?

We find out around Dec. 15 for EA.

My D just received email today telling her that all of her application stuff is in and sending contact info for her interview. She applied regular decision. It made me think that the ED stuff must be completely done if they are now looking at RD applicants.

If last year's thread is accurate, someone living close to DC (Maryland, Virginia) SHOULD hear from Georgetown by tomorrow in the mail. If that is the case, then I would expect almost the rest of the nation to hear by Monday! The sooner the better!
