I’m a junior with a 3.0 gpa and 1590 SAT although I’m retaking it at the end of the school year and maybe in the Fall, too. And I’ll be taking the ACT soon, too. I’m interested in the ASU Design School and have been in an art-based program at my high school where I take two periods of digital arts/graphic design a day, for all four years. Have also won some design contests. Hoping that will help make up for my low gpa, which is mostly because of C’s in math. I’m not a math person no matter how much I study. I’m purely visual, hence graphic design. So my question is whether applying EA to ASU would increase my chances? On the website they say if you don’t get in EA, October or November (they have two EA cycles), then you’re chances are lost (unless they happen to defer you to RP but that seems like a gamble, too). Any insight would be most helpful!
I didn’t even know they had an EA deadline. Well usually EA means higher acceptance rates (although not necessarily to drop in standards). I’d go for it seeing as there’s very little to lose. If you got denied EA, idk why you’d be accepted RD. Just make sure to explore other options as well.
It’s worth it if you’re set on ASU.
Perhaps, look at other options as well.
But also, show them a portfolio of your work; make it the best you can.
Best of luck.
Looks like they call it VIP: https://students.asu.edu/freshman/requirements
There should be no harm in applying non-binding early action – if you get admitted early and know that the school is affordable, then you have a safety. But you still have until May 1 to choose which school to attend.
