I called the admissions office today and they told me even though I summited my application on the 29th of February, the application wasn't processed until the 2nd of March. This made my application to be regular decision instead of early action. I wanted to ask her why wouldn't it be considered early action but she seemed pretty irritated over the phone, so I thanked her and hung up. My question is, since when I was filling out my application, I filled it out as EA, will it look bad when they are reviewing my application as RD?

Hmm, I don’t see why it would make you look bad – if you submitted it ED, there’s no reason they shouldn’t be processing it as such. Also, one admissions person told me that as long as you submitted the first part of the application ED and the second part soon thereafter, it would still be treated as ED. Technically, I submitted my electronic application after midnight NYC time (I’m on the west coast) on March 2, and they still processed my app quickly enough to notify me of my admission by mid-April. I wouldn’t sweat it – they have a rolling admissions system, so if they processed it by March 2 you should be hearing something soon regardless.

PS I’ve found everyone I’ve talked to on the phone at the GS admissions department to be fairly irritable and unhelpful. If you have serious concerns you may want to just call and ask to speak with/be given the email of an admissions counselor – I have a feeling you might have better luck that way.

I was concerned that the admission board may look at my application and think that I can’t keep up with deadlines (when I actually did/do)

Thanks for the tip Olivia!
