is there any real difference between applying early action via common app and sending in the personal application. I feel much more confident in my common app essay than in the 200-500 word personal app essay and I do not mind paying the common app fee. Am i hurting my chances by doing common app?

no it will not hurt your chances by using the CA. But, why not save the cash and just cut and paste your common app essay into the Personal App?

DS started to fill out the personal app last year but ended up using the common app. There was no charge to use the common app. It was the same as if he'd used the personal app. You should be fine either way. Good luck!

how long did it take to get an admissions decision using the common app (if you submitted it at the end of september?)
THANKYOU!

I think I'm in the same situation as you are...

I was wondering if using the common app might be a better choice for me. I have no idea where I fall in the applicant pool, and I feel like the common app is a lot more thorough and personal. The Personal Application just seems like you're filling out some information that won't really give the person reading it a good idea who you are as a person.

And Tulane is pretty high on my list so I want to give it my best shot.... although the 4 weeks notice is pretty sweet :D

As I mentioned on another thread, because my s started to do the personal app but ended up using the common app, they accidentally had 2 half-complete files on him. After a few weeks he called-- it took a few calls to get them to finally figure out what had happened, but once they merged the files he heard back really fast. I can't recall the total time between sendingthe common app and getting the response, but it was a few weeks at most, I believe. He knew by mid October that he was in.
