Early action vs. regular decision UGA

After reading the UGA Admissions blog and everything on their website, I still can’t quite understand why someone would not apply EA to UGA. They say that they only decline students that wouldn’t make it in RD, regardless of whatever the ECs & recs would say on the RD application. So, if you don’t get in EA, you either: 1) apply RD because you’re deferred; or 2) know for sure you wouldn’t have gotten in anyway. The fall application is so easy to complete, it seems like an obvious choice to go ahead and do it.

Am I missing something here? Is there a downside to applying in the fall? Do you have to pay twice? That’s the only thing I can think of that would make someone possibly wait until spring.

I don’t know whether you have to pay twice, but some students are simply more proactive(and therefore, more qualified) than others. A-type people tend to want to submit things early on, while B-type people tend to wait until the last minute.

That’s what probably attributes to the early acceptances. There is no con whatsoever to applying early. Good luck! Go Dawgs!

Thanks for your insight. It’s strange that they make it so easy in the fall, but since I have three sons applying at once, I’m glad it’s easy. We’re hoping to hear from them before other applications are due so they can skip the fallback schools. They are all at around 35-40%ile of last year’s fall admittance group, so they look good for overall admission but maybe not early. The stats for UGA move up every year, so it’s hard to know how relevant last year’s EA stats are.
