Early Action vs. Regular Decision?

I am applying to NYU and was wondering if there are any benefits to applying early action? I don't have the resume to be for sure into the school (I'm applying to Stern), so are there any benefits to applying Early Action or disadvantages?

NYU has Early Decision, not Early Action. That means that if you apply ED and you find NYU’s offer of financial aid acceptable that you are committed to attending NYU. All of your regular decision applications must be withdrawn.

If you don’t get enough aid from NYU to make the school affordable (and NYU is notorious for often not providing enough aid) and you turn down the ED offer, then you can’t reconsider their offer in the spring if other schools end up offering less aid.

If your family can afford to pay full price for NYU, and you aren’t hunting for need based or merit aid, and NYU is your absolute love-it-above-all-others first choice, then ED is a fine choice. If you need to compare aid offers to get the best deal, wait until RD.
