Early Action vs Regular Decision

Back to the thread topic. D applied to Mich EA as a match and she applied EA to Penn State as a safety. First, she got into PSU as a safety, so she now knew she was going to a decent college. Once she was admitted to Mich early, she knew that at worst, she would be going to a GREAT school (btw, she immmediately turned down PSU because she didn’t want to hold a spot she wasn’t going to use). She applied to a couple of other matches. e.g. UVa, (got in), and big time reaches, e.g., Yale (didn’t get in). She had absolutely no stress over the winter, didn’t get into her reaches, enrolled at Mich and couldn’t be happier. IMHO, anything that cuts down on the stress-level for HS seniors is a good thing. I would highly recommend EA.

^ It is good that you don’t need to compare financial aid package.

The tuition difference per annum is $15k, $60k over 4 years. The average annual earnings in MI is about $45k. State taxes, $6/7k? I’d say out of state students and their families carry quite a bit of financial weight for Mi when all is said and done.

michigan state income tax is 4.25% I believe. On 45k with no deductions is $1,912.50
