Does applying early at UC even increase your chances? I can't find information on their policy: do they defer you if you're not accepted early, or is it that once you're rejected then that's it?

The acceptance rate is generally higher during the EA round, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that your chances are increased.

During the EA round, you can be accepted, rejected (final decision), or deferred. If you’re deferred, it means they will read your application again during the regular round for some reason or another.

Do you know how many are deferred? So are you saying the chances are about the same? Or does it depend on your stats? Sometimes I’ve heard if the school is a super reach for you you shouldn’t apply early because it puts you in an applicant pool of the top students, sometimes I’ve heard the opposite.

I don’t know specifically, but based on what I remember from browsing the results thread, defers are the most common.

I don’t know about the chances and whether it depends on anything. Honestly, I recommend that you not worry over details about this. Apply early if you are ready because at least there is an “apparent” higher likelihood. If you don’t feel your application is ready, apply during the regular round. If you try to worry about all these different scenarios, you will go crazy!

Thanks for the advice! I’m trying not to worry but I didn’t want to apply early and then HURT my chances. Very stressful.

Early Action will not hurt your chances. However, it may not necessarily help.

okay, thanks, that’s all I was worried about. I’m pretty sure I’ll have my application ready for November and Chicago is my top choice so I think I’ll do EA. Is it better to apply earlier than the deadline?
