I was looking at the collegeboard.com profile of Notre Dame. It gives numerous stats, and one of them had to do with EA. Exactly 1/2 (50%) of kids applying EA were admitted. Now, at first I thought that this was insane. Such a fantastic University admitting such a high percentage. I was puzzled. I actually still am. I bet it has something to do with athletes and kids who can pay full boat, but I'm not sure. Anyone know why ND is accepting 50% for EA?

From what I've heard, the EA applicant pool is much more competitive. The University even discourages people from applying early unless they are at the top of the ranges for scores and class ranks.

if you visit and ask them if you should apply EA, they will tell you no unless you aren't in the top 5% of your class with a 1420 SAT score. They kind of regulate their early applicant pool

Well, uhm, I kinda didn't have a 1420 SAT score, doesn't that discount me? (I had a 1320, but got in EA)

i had 1400 and out of 5% and got in EA

Does ND defer the majority of that othe 50% not accepted, or are most rejected?

I've heard 50 A, 25 D, 25 R

tlaktan, what did you write your essay about? I have a 1320. Yay for sub-1400s hahah.

Actually, what did everybody write his/her essay about?

My classical guitar

My conversion to Catholicism

My missions trip to Guatemala

I am in the top 1% (4.102 GPA as of the end of junior year - haven't gotten my grades yet for this year, but should be all A's in 4 AP classes) and have a 33 ACT. I did not apply early action - I applied regular action. Have I screwed up my chances by not applying early action? Be brutal.

ViaAppia, I think your chances are very good if your ECs, essays, and recs are OK. Take all predicitions with a grain of salt, of course.

Does anyone know how may students applied EA? I think overall they had 11,000 applicants last year but I wonder how much of that was EA.

here i just copied and pasted this from the admitted student section on "ask the gipper" just for you tookie.

Ask the Gipper

How many students are admitted under early notification?

Signed: Newly Admitted

12/29/2004
Dear Newly Admitted, We just finished adding up the totals, and out of 2750 applications, there were 1360 students admitted early action, so the acceptance rate was just about half. Consider yourself lucky to be among the chosen. The Gipper

hm.. so lets do the math..
if 1360 slots are already filled from EA.. and theres similar numbers from last year (3350 accepted out of 11500 EA and RD).. that means theres 1990 slots left for 8750 applicants.. ~22.7% RD acceptance rate (compared to 49.4% EA)

Then you gotta consider all those deferred, which would make the rate even lower.

Thanks for the statistics, although they don't look promising. I'd like to know the SAT scores of the remaining 8750 applicants. I'm just wondering if they take those 8750 applications and pick out the top 1990 SAT scores and call it a day.

Ugh I hope not..it just seems like the way ND describes themselves they look more for the well rounded student.
