can anyone explain this to me? i know what it is, but should you have specific stats for it? when is the app due if you use it?

its pretty simple, theres 3 different types: Early Action, early decision, and regular decision. early action is when you simply apply early so that you find out whether your accepted or not earlier. the application due date for every school is different but I think the EA deadline for UNC last year was like nov. 1st or something. some schools require EA for full consideration of scholarships so its best to apply early action. Early decision is different, its binding, meaning that if you are accepted, you pretty much have to go to that school unless under extreme financial conditions. you dont have to have higher scores or better grades to apply EA but if you arent accepted EA, they might waitlist you till the applications due for the regular due date comes around. if i left something out, tell me haha

yep swim4china's got it covered. what he means by "waitlist you till the applications due for the regular due date comes around" is that UNC may DEFER you. if you apply early action, unc may accept, defer, or reject you. defer means that they will put your application into the "regular decision" pile and re-evaluate it for admission, and you get another shot basically. i dont have exact stats since they're hard to find, but i heard that the percentage who are accepted after deferral is pretty low.

the overall acceptance rate goes up to about 45% if you apply EA, but that includes in-state acceptances, which skews it since i heard it helps a LOT if you apply early from instate. if you apply EA from OOS, it doesnt help a ton since the majority of OOS-ers have great stats, and those who apply early often times have even better stats. however, it's always best to apply early =]

EA deadline for this year is November 1.
