I saw a thread where someone was advised not to apply EA to Georgetown. It looked like this was supposed to help their chances...but I really didn't think it made much of a difference. Do you all think it's easier to get in if you apply regular decision?

I think I was the one who told him to wait to apply regular not to improve his chances just to save him the trouble of applying EA. It's really hard to get in as a borderline candidate EA, they only take those who they sure would have gotten in RD regardless of the pool. This opens up the candidate to apply ED or EA to one of his other reaches. Just my opinion, but you really could go either way if Georgetown was your first choice.

I can't decide whether to apply EA to Georgetown of ED to Rice.
Does Georgetown's EA admission not have a much higher acceptance rate like places such as Hopkins?

zfox, since it's EA, it doesn't really change admit rates. Chances for early at JHU are only better because it's binding--they know what they're getting.

But if you're not 100% sure on Rice, I don't think that's a good indicator for ED.

I would apply EA to Georgetown (due in part to the fact that I would choose to attend Georgetown over Rice, but that's beside the point). If you're not 100% set on a school, EA gives you options even if you get in. And, you can also apply to other safety schools EA to give yourself peace of mind knowing relatively early that you have a place or two to go should you not get into Georgetown. I applied EA to Georgetown, was deferred, but was ultimately admitted RD. So, EA doesn't necessarily hurt your chances of admission.

Of note, Georgetown repeatedly says in their publications/on their website that they purposefully admit roughly the same percentage of applicants EA versus RD. According to their website, they actually admitted slightly fewer (20%) students EA in the 2006-2007 admissions cycle than they did RD (22%). But those numbers are pretty close, so...

Excellent post marissa.

I marked RD on the part one of the application...just the personal info stuff.
if i want to change it to EA I can just email the admissions office right?
